Woodsyla Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 by any side according to the paper this morning. Puts it into context and also shows how high the bar has been raised by Chelsea. This is a tough old league now.
Tosh Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 And it'll be tough all the way through to May While I am delighted about the start, celebrating it, and our position in it before the end of October, sort of shows how far we have fallen. No longer do we expect that, but are pleased and somewhat surprised by it.
Romario Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 It'w wonderful just to be in contension. You can see why we drop so many points each season, it's because we've nothing to play for other than 4th. If we'd been 7 or 8 points off the top going into last night I think we would have drawn. We have the bit between our teeth now and it's great to watch. Beating ManU and Chelsea has really reall given us a boost and it's those teams we need to keep the reins on

We are right to be surprised by it, Chelsea got 95pts one year and started worse than this. There are currently 6 teams averaging 2pts a game at the moment as well. Incredible.
Stevie H Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 doesn't necessarily mean that the league is any stronger than it used to be does it? just that we've improved our consistency. it's always been difficult to win the league.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Flair wins you matches, not sweat. Sack Rafa.

All 4 of them look capable of winning the title. Arsenal have slipped up but good results in the games against the other 3 and they would be right back in it. We've beaten United and home and Chelsea away in the same season. When was the last time we did that ? That's not just consistency it's also being better than the other top sides on matchday.
Big Red Machine Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Didn't Chelsea win 9 of the first 10 a few years ago?
Woodsyla Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Didn't Chelsea win 9 of the first 10 a few years ago?Not according to the stat man at the BBC. Maybe we have equalled their start.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 also shows how high the bar has been raised by Chelsea. how does that follow?
Gerry Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Not according to the stat man at the BBC. Maybe we have equalled their start. Chelsea won their first 9 games in 2005-2006, drew the 10th. So somebody somewhere has got something wrong.
Woodsyla Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 how does that follow?Because we had to end their 4 year unbeaten record to stay ahead of them. We have a phenomenal start beaten both our title rivals, come back from the dead several times to nick wins and only had one game where we didn't get what we deserved and we are still only 3pts ahead of them.

Anfield Fox Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 We won 10 league games in a row leading to the games in Japan back in 2005. It's great but lets not get carried away.

It's great but lets not get carried away.Could you point me to any point where anyone in this thread is getting carried away. I'm merely pointing out that it's taken a phenomenal start to get ahead of Chelsea.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 (edited) don't mention 2002-03 For every sunny sky there is a cloud looming in the distance - I actually thought of that when watching the highlights on FootyFirst - didnt know score when watching Edited October 30, 2008 by Rory Fitzgerald
Woodsyla Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 For every sunny sky there is a cloud looming in the distance - I actually thought of that when watching the highlights on FootyFirst - didnt know score when watchingIwas watching MOTD highlight and knew none of the scores, was praying we wouldn't be first up because that would mean a dodgy result. When Arsenal didn't get beat I knew the worst to expect was a draw however with no clock it's frightening watching chance after chance missed in second half highlights. Fecking relieved when Stevie scored !!!! Wont be doing that again, listen or watch match, no unseen highlights unless they are proper 1/2hr highlights.
Bootle Buck Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 It's a strange feeling being top of the league. People finally recognize we exist and are starting to talk about us. On the other hand there seemed a lttle nervousness amongst the players and fans last night knowing that we have to keep winning just to keep the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea at bay. They still seem to be able to steam roller over teams and it will be hard to keep looking over our shoulder. With all that said it still feels great to be TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
pawiddop Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 These Premier league stats get on my wick, They fail to mention the 100 odd years before it.
smithdown Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 These Premier league stats get on my wick, They fail to mention the 100 odd years before it. Including the year the mancs won their first ten. The Peter Barnes era.
