I recently did a series of exclusive interviews with Liverpool legends for my website LFChistory.net.

First up was Liverpool's record appearance holder, Ian Callaghan.

It's been an long-standing ambition of mine to interview hard man Gerry Byrne - a truly unique player in Liverpool's history.

Shankly said the following about tough man Byrne: "I've had many skilful men and the likes of Peter Thompson, Ian St John, Kevin Keegan and Steve Heighway were the ones who caught the eye. But the best professional of the lot was Gerry Byrne. He was a true Liverpudlian who couldn't look his fellow Scousers in the face after a game unless he'd given everything he had for 90 minutes."

Gerry famously taught Tommy Smith a valuable lesson in Liverpool's training and as a testament to being the toughest of all tough men who have ever graced Liverpool's shirt he played with a broken collar bone in the 1965 FA Cup final.

Hope you enjoy... next week we'll publish an interview with David Fairclough of St Etienne fame and more often than not making the difference when coming off the bench. Fairclough discusses his relationship with Bob Paisley rather candidly.

Cheers, Arnie editor of LFChistory.net
