floyd the barber Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 thought he was superb today...for me...his best performance in a red shirt. He really was solid at the back and linked well when going foward... When fit....should definetly be our first choice left back....of course saying that, he probably broke a nail today and will be out for 6 weeks....
CarraLegend Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Anyone who doubts his ability is in my opinion f***ing mental. It's just keeping him fit, i'd be happy to have Dossena for all CL and Cup games and try and save him for the League.
allawee Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 He was really good but.... The myth about him and being a good free kick taker! he has an awful record and scored once out of probably about 50 he has taken. But what surprises me that others, e.g. Gerrard, Xabi etc. always let him have a go...he must be great in training.

Only goal he has scored was away at Bolton last season and came after a corner. Good finish mind you. Edited October 26, 2008 by stressederic

Anyway defensivly he was superb today.....along with the underrated arbeloa.
Barnesy_10 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 big fan of Aurelio... bit of an unsung hero, definitely more comfortable seeing him on the pitch over Dossena in that type of game, though I think Riera should take some credit too, he takes alot of pressure away from Aurelio with his exceptional on the ball ability and general holding up play.... but lets not take anything away from Aurelios performance... excellent to have him fit again.
CaptainXabi Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 You know what, I used to get frustrated about him consistently being injured, but he seems to make the big games often enough and put in a good performance. That's good enough for me (and for 2 million quid, or whatever we ended up paying).

MFletcher Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 If Aurelio had Riise's fitness record, he'd be widely recognised as one the best, if not the best, left backs in the league.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 don't mention the chelsea semi last year when you know who took his place wap wap waaaaaaaap
Mike Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 If Aurelio had Riise's fitness record, he'd be widely recognised as one the best, if not the best, left backs in the league. no he wouldn't
Mike Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 he's a reasonable fullback when fit, and you know next to f*** all about football. no he wouldn't
Earl Hafler Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I miss Riise's whacks from defence. Sod passing the ball with your right to a midfielder with ability - just launch it forward with your left. And Aurelio is nowhere near Clichy's standard.
MFletcher Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 You seem to have an unwillingness to say anything positive about our left backs. Aurelio, when fit, is a quality player. He didn't put a foot wrong today - he tackled well, kept his head under pressure, passed it well and was generally in complete control of everything he had to do. If he was constantly fit, his stock would be much higher. As it is, people overlook the good performances because he's injured every third game, thus don't consider him a viable long-term option because of it.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Him and Riera dont conform to your traditional wide men link-up. They are just very good footallers and our players recognise that by giving to them in tight areas. They had a great game today !
Clay Davis Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 he's a reasonable fullback when fit, and you know next to f*** all about football. no he wouldn'tI know s**** loads about football and I think he would.
allawee Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I know s**** loads about football and I think he would. I think even when fit, given the chance I would have Cliche, Cole and Evra in that order ahead of him as much as I hate them all
Mr Makaveli Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 he was..... the man of the match award was difficult really as they were all great.
Swagger Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I think even when fit, given the chance I would have Cliche, Cole and Evra in that order ahead of him as much as I hate them all Cole is a f***ing c***, I absolutely despise him.
Bo Benn Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I know s**** loads about football and I think he would. I agree, the way he has performed lately there aren't many leftbacks I'd rather have in the team.
matty Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I had a little pop at Aurelio for standing off when their RM was shaping to cross, obviously Rafa had told him not to worry about crosses (being pointless, possibly), and just not let them get to the byline. Well done both.
mercury Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 He definitely has ability, but a bit inconsistent and injury prone. The latter two probably are related - that his physique just could not take the high demand of top notch professional football.
