Redkop Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) SSN reporting on it repeatedly this morning ALSONSO TOO SLOW Apologies if it's a repost. Edited October 9, 2008 by Macca
Guest Souness Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 He has a point. His lack of mobility can be a real issue at times, especially if the opposition manager is on the ball tactically.
Cobs Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 so why did you want him then Claudio, you great t** ?
Bailo Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Ranieri should be worrying about other matters (no win in 4, rumours of dressing room split) than Xabi. Still, glad he thinks that way! I liked this quote from the Juve president though: Juve president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli confirmed Ranieri's job is secure for the second time this week. "Ranieri's position is absolutely strong and stable," he said. "I have said it once and I will say it again, Ranieri's position is strong. Now I expect the team to win at Napoli."
Redkop Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 so why did you want him then Claudio, you great t** ? It does make you wonder doesn't it?
Hassony Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 He has a point. His lack of mobility can be a real issue at times, especially if the opposition manager is on the ball tactically. luckily, Ferguson, Moyes, the Liege manager, Mark hughes and Roy Keane have all been "off the ball" then
Sion Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 He'd be playing next to Sissoko, i'd class him as a 'little soldier', he wouldn't need pace, especially in a league such as Serie which is slower than the PL.Rubbish.
Guest Souness Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 luckily, Ferguson, Moyes, the Liege manager, Mark hughes and Roy Keane have all been "off the ball" then Is there any point in me discussing it with you as you obviously won't have a bad word said about anyone or anything to do with the club?
Bailo Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 luckily, Ferguson, Moyes, the Liege manager, Mark hughes and Roy Keane have all been "off the ball" thenAlonso is class, but he does struggle when someone sits 2 yds off him and gives him no time. I'm suprised more managers don't, but I think that's to do with them worrying about leaving Gerrard and Torres free.
Hassony Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Is there any point in me discussing it with you as you obviously won't have a bad word said about anyone or anything to do with the club? you are welcome to have a go at Pennant, Voronin, Yossi (to some degree), Parry and the owners
Tommy Cockles Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Rieri? I was thinking this was Albert for a minute...
Redkop Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) My bad... RANIERI oops Will some kind Mod please amend... ta Edited October 9, 2008 by Redkop
deacon Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 He's only said that Alonso is too slow, which he clearly is. Don't know why that should cause an uproar.
Redkop Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 He's only said that Alonso is too slow, which he clearly is. Don't know why that should cause an uproar. You seem to be missing the point... it's SSN who are making a big issue of it.
Reggie Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Rieri? I was thinking this was Albert for a minute... Haha me too. I thought Bert was shooting his mouth off already.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 That looks like an answer to the question; Qtn 'Mr Ranieri, given Xabi Alonso's impressive form for Liverpool this season, do you regret missing out ?' Ans 'He was a player we wanted,' Ranieri said of Alonso. 'But he is a player, who even though he is an extraordinary man and a great professional, left me perplexed by the slowness of his movement in midfield. 'In the midfield of Rafa Benitez's Liverpool, where all of them are little soldiers, he finds himself in a fantastic position. 'But in our midfield, he would have found it hard to support the midfield line seeing as (Juve wingers) Mauro Camoranesi and Pavel Nedved are not players that come back to give support like Liverpool's wingers.' A bit like, yeah we wanted him, he is good but lets be glad I didnt get him because......................he's slow, thats it, he's not as fast as Gerrard, Momo or Mascherano
stressederic Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Did Serie A suddenly turn into a 100mph league and nobody notice?
fyds Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Is there any point in me discussing it with you as you obviously won't have a bad word said about anyone or anything to do with the club?Alonso does more than Ok in this league, and has played well this season being a major factor in why we're doing so well, wouldn't you agree? Serie A is a traditionally much slower league to play in where you get more time on the ball at walking pace than the 'up-and-at-'em' premiership, would you agree? Ergo, Ranieri is talking through his chocolate starfish, no?
MFletcher Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Ranieri in "we may have dropped a clanger not pushing to sign Alonso... best pretend it's what we wanted the whole time" argument.
Gomez Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 He's only said that Alonso is too slow, which he clearly is. Don't know why that should cause an uproar. A number of reasons. Firstly, why bring it up now? Months after you missed out on signing him. In fact why say it all? Can you imagine Rafa commenting on a random player in a different country he doesn't like playing for a team we are not going to play at any point in the near future? Secondly, he made such a big effort in trying to sign him, making repeated statements about how they were growing impatient with Xabi (who was at Euro2008) and Liverpool (who wouldn't accept a lower fee) so it obvious that the reasons he didn't sign Xabi are not because Ranieri thinks he is slow. Xabi hasn't suddenly become slower than he was when Ranieri was trying to sign him. He is making an oaf of himself, it would like Rafa saying we decided against signing Barry because he's too left footed.
lawrie Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Clearly Ranieri has brought it up now because his team isnt performing as well as supporters would like, he therefore has to justify dropping his interest in a Champions League and European Championship winner
Nerik Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Ranieri went out and bought Poulsen and he now has a midfield with no one in there who can actually dictate the tempo of the game. He is getting slated for that and he is now trying to justify not buying Alonso with these comments.
