Bout time he got some sort of an extension don't ya think?

Benitez waits on new deal

Spaniard not worried over contract delay

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has dismissed rumours linking him with a move to Juventus as he waits on a new deal at Anfield.

Benitez has just over 18 months to run on his current contract, alerting a number of clubs across Europe to the Spaniard's possible availability.

Juventus have been credited with an interest in Benitez as doubts grow over the long-term future of Claudio Ranieri at the Turin giants.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks declared at the start of the year that he was keen to sort out a contract extension for Benitez, but as yet no new deal has been in the offing.

Benitez is not worried about the situation and is hoping he can sort out a long-term deal so that he can continue his plans on Merseyside.

"I'm not really worried about the situation at the moment," Benitez told the Daily Express. "I am trying to be pragmatic about it and am just concentrating on the things I can improve.

"It doesn't make it more difficult for me to plan for the future.

"I can only control things on the pitch, improve the squad and, if I can do that, then things will be easier in the future.

"I'm really pleased here and I have two more years left on my contract, so right now I'm just trying to do my job as best as I can.

"I've always said I want to stay here for many years, that hasn't changed."

Benitez, who is now in his fifth season at Anfield, also feels clubs can only thrive if they have a long-term approach and keep faith with managers.

"You can analyse the situation at other clubs in England at the moment," added Benitez. "I will not talk about other managers, but the problem in England now is that everyone wants to be successful too soon.

"That is the part of the game I don't like. I would prefer to have a long-term contract and then you can have a long-term plan.

"All managers need time, but it is more difficult to get that now. But that is not just a problem for me. All managers are in the same situation."

It's obvious Rafa or his 'people' have briefed the press, hence the quick rebuttal from Rafa today. Just have to accept this how he does things.

I just hope it doesn't drag on and disrupt the season too much, as if anyone is going to stop us challenging for the title, it's ourselves.

That's Liverpool major problems. Good manager doesnt stay long while Souness and Uncle Roy stayed long.

he hasn't left yet

He should not be offered one before the summer anyway, this is his 5th season and he needs to deliever.

If we dont put together a strong title challenge this year someone else should be given a go in my opinion.

The chances of winning the league if you have not won it during your first 4 seasons are very slim anyway so why waste any more time on a lost cause.

utter rubbish

If we lose Rafa we more likely to go backwards than forward IMO

just look at Bayern (Klinsmann) and Spurs (the highly rated Ramos)

Are you suggesting Rafa is the only manager able to take us forward?

If we get another manager in next summer he will have a great foundation to build on, all he need to do is to get 4-5 players in and we will be rocking.

I think most managers would be happy with our core players, we just need more quality in the wide areas.

Another thing, do you really think it is possible for us to go much backwards considering the player material we have and our position as a club in this league?

5, 3, 3, 4 finishes in the league are not exactly more than what should be expected from a team like us.

Er that great foundation is the bloody foundation Rafa built ffs. Let him finish what he started by giving him a 3 year extension.

Some might suggest Rafa can only take us to a certain kind of level, and we have already got there, unless he mounts a serious title challenge this season.

As much as a great start as it has been, we have won nothing yet and achieved nothing either. I do get a feeling that whatever we achieve this year is in our own hands, and we have a team which can finish at least 3rd IMO. Anything else IMO is a failure.

If we finish no where near the chasing pack I personally wouldn't offer him a contract. Infact let me put it more bluntly, if we don't challenge for the league, I wouldn't offer him a contract.

IMO you either have faith in Rafa or you dont. On the evidence of the last few years I think he's earned a new contract. There are small similarities to Agger's situation really before Skrtel got injured. He hasnt played properly for 12 months so do we risk losing him to Madrid by waiting to see if he's still up to the job or take a calculated risk and give him a new contract??

One thing is faith, the other is blind faith.

I have faith in him, I just believe if he doesn't challenge for the league with this team now, then he never will...

Then we have this complex within our players and our fans that the manager is bigger than the club.

Rafa has done a great job in taking the club forward. Only you see Rafa has reached a limit. Fans can see this side is getting forward in every respect and energetic and full of promise and potentials. From signing the crops of best youngsters in the world to lay a foundation in our future.

League wise we dont fare badly, especially when we face a domination of Manure after a decade, Arsenal under Arsene Wenger has made a difference, Chelsea bottomless money. Condidering the competition these teams pose we didnt achieve poorly in the league. And we are getting improving every season.

Its not about being bigger. I'm talking about being happy

I'm just saying its not as easy as saying 'new manager comes in, adds his own ingrediants to Rafa's and we are away'

If some of the players don't like the new manager, they will go

At this club CEO is bigger and accounts for nothing.
