honourablegeorge Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Masch's response to Eric Gerets' "Duracell Bunny" quip: "That is my job," responded Mascherano. "I know I don't have the quality of Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso so I just have to give 100%, do the easy things and do my best in every game. All the players want to play with the ball and maybe I'd like to have the quality of Gerrard, but I don't. So I need to do other things. The most important thing is the balance of the team and each player has to do his job."
Coyler Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Haha. And people think that Skrtel is the scary one.
AE Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Don't like the £ signs in his eyes.he plays for us as he is a true childhood red, just like Jamie, Robbie, .......

Jarg Armani Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/oc...ol.psveindhoven love the f***in bones of the lad.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I only just looked at The Holy Grail y'day - that bunny hasn't a patch on Mascher Killer Bunny VS Duracell Bunny
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/oc...ol.psveindhoven Miserable memories from last season's semi-final at Chelsea remain fresh for Mascherano and will inspire his latest assault on the Champions League more than the sight of his close friend Carlos Tevez lifting the trophy with Manchester United in May. "We had a big chance to win at Stamford Bridge and if it wasnt for the stupid f***ing dumb ginger c*** we would have had and it was quiet in the dressing room afterwards," he recalled. "We were really, really sad, but that is what drives me on. When you lose, the pain stays with you for many weeks, months or even years. That happened to me in the World Cup as well when Argentina lost to Germany on penalties. We were the better team and we deserved to win, but we couldn't do it." *I would also like to distance myself from the remarks made by Masch in this instance. Edited October 1, 2008 by Ronnie Whelan
Mr Makaveli Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Eamonn Dunphie (Irish TV panel member for RTE) lastnight called Mascherano a donkey. What a disgrace!
Boca Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Eamonn Dunphie (Irish TV panel member for RTE) lastnight called Mascherano a donkey. What a disgrace! In fairness he did say he was a "good donkey", so that's alright.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Sure Johnny Giles was making him redundant now that Stevie is settling into a proper midfielders role. The idea was that in previous times Gerrard was our go-to-guy and he felt he had to do everything. Now with the class of Torres and soon to be seen from Keane, Gerrard could relax more into his role and not do the work of many men. Anyway, I find their criticism is ever changing. When the business end of the season comes we are a team to be reckoned with in the CL and the donkies of Kuyt and Mascherano were vital - they stop the opposition players from stamping their quality on the game and get the ball back for us to do damage. They champion quality which is right, but all quality and no fight is no receipe for success - what say you Arsene ? Anyway, when Liverpool turn over another big name in Europe this season through industry and the quality of Gerrard, Keane and Torres then they'll be beating a different drum.................... again
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/1001/cl_liv_psv_av.html For whoever is interested in 23mins of analysis. I'd love Whelan to be on LFC.tv and see if beat the same drum, I doubt it
Boca Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/1001/cl_liv_psv_av.html For whoever is interested in 23mins of analysis. I'd love Whelan to be on LFC.tv and see if beat the same drum, I doubt it Whelan is up there with Merson in the brain dead stakes. At least Merson has the excuse of years of drug and alcohol abuse. Whelan just seems genuinely thick.
Chili Palmer Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Whelan is up there with Merson in the brain dead stakes. At least Merson has the excuse of years of drug and alcohol abuse. Whelan just seems genuinely thick. he is just trying to make a name for himself on tv. more controversial the better.
meepins Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Anyway, I find their criticism is ever changing.I find they repeat the same rubbish every time regardless of what has happened. It would be nice if they got down to some actual analysis sometime.
Boca Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) he is just trying to make a name for himself on tv. more controversial the better. I don't think so. He doesn't seem to have a mind of his own so he gets dragged along and swayed by the other panelists. That's why he was so critical last night, and why you'll see a completely different viewpoint from him if he's on LFC tv. Edited October 2, 2008 by Boca
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I find they repeat the same rubbish every time regardless of what has happened. It would be nice if they got down to some actual analysis sometime. When they play the weak teams our industry is a negative, when we meet a bigger team like Barca, Inter, Arsenal and beat them then they highlight the great work of Mascher and Kuyt - its the same drum beat to a different tune. Donkies play good, donkies play bad

budgie Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I would like to distance myself from remarks made by Ronnie Whelan. Everything he said last night f***ing grated with me. They were ridicolous last night. Slated everything despite a solid 3-1 victory. Some of the stuff from Dunphy were a joke. Masch is a donkey, Lucas the ever brazilian he's seen etc. Then they proceed to praise Chelsea for getting a result in Romania where by all accounts they were gash. I've come to expect it from Dunphy but I expected better from Giles & Ronnie. Ronnie seems to hate Rafa for some reason.
sean Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 They had to make a scandal, it's what gets us lot talking about them and posting links to their analysis.

Im not sure if its just Rafa or if its a dislike for LFC that he has somehow developed.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Charlie Nicholas, Paul Merson, Richard Keys, Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan, Eamon Dunphy (not so much Giles, maybe Redknapp and definitely Andy Gray are afflicted with the same disease IknowmoreaboutfootballthanRafaBenitezitis They are very quick to criticise, very keen keen to criticise in fact. Their tone smacks of 'for god sake, everyone can see its wrong except for Rafa' and become dismissive of him. But when things go right, its difficult to give too much praise, they must give some and cant be seen to be bitter but try to explain it away using a variety of other factors e.g last night. Commentator on Sky: Of the 100 goals Gerrard has scored, 72 have been under Rafa Benitez Andy Gray: Yes but its also down to becomming a better player and more experience. Its very much a pattern of their analysis that I have picked up on and its a common factor all the time when they assess Rafa. I know others pick up on the negativity but would you agree with my reading that they see themselves above Rafa in terms of their reading and knowledge of the game ?

I definitely agree with the bit in bold. Quite a few pundits tend to be dismissive because he approaches the game in a different way, and in a way that doesnt suit them. When will Rafa realise you dont tinker with your best 11 or that zonal marking simply doesnt work or that you must play Gerrard in the middle, ad naseum. To be honest though, as much as it gets to me while they are being critical it is much easier to listen than the creaming that goes on when talking about Arsenal or the big phil revolution.
