Maybe - if I'm not a lazy sod - I'll make this a game-game thing. I'm interested to see what people thing of the performance on Sat. I bet we rate refs more harshly when we don't win, although we beat the Mancs & I thought Webb was shocking.

I'll even let Will keep stats on this...

Was it Riley who disallowed the goal or was it based on a flag from the linesman?

Think Torres looked at the linesman to check he wasn't being flagged for being offside, then looked back at Riley to see what was up.

I blame Riley.

I HATE YOU RILEY!

Thought he was pretty terrible. Didn't let the game flow for either side.

Horendous disallowed goal for us.

Thats not his fault, if the players commit fouls he has to blow for them unless the ball is retained by the team in position and has an advantage - that does not happen everytime a foul is committed.

I gave him a generous 4, but would have went no less than a 3. Wasnt taken in by Yakubu's dive, nor the pressure at the start for Skrtel's robust challenge. Plus yellow cards were generally restricted. I refuse to blame him or any ref for giving free's when the players are constantly at each others ankles

people giving him a 1, I don't understand. Styles vs Chelsea last season was a 1. Riley wasn't THAT s****

I rated him 2 because although he was completely inept and got lots of decisions wrong for both teams, thankfully none of them had any big influence on the match.

Mixed. He sent off Cahill and spotted the dive by Yakubu, but he disallowed Torres hat-trick goal. Swings and roundaboots.

Had it been 0-0 and we not won because of that Torres disallowed goal we'd all be livid.

Add to that objectively Cahill's sending off was debateable, as were most of the bookings

very definition of a 'look at me, not the game' ref

no higher than a 2, possibly even a one

Gave him a 3.

Did ok. Home team usually get the 50/50 calls.

Should have booked Yakubu and Cahill for "simulation" before he ever booked the Yak for the one he did.

Cahill was a straight red.

So fair enough all in all.

Any ref who blows up for 43 fouls can't deserve anything higher than 1

Why, is there a quota for each game ? Do 2 teams only commit 10 fouls a-piece. The Merseyside derby has produced the most cards in Premiership history so it stands to reason that there would be fouls in this game. After the criticism of his performance he was more likely to blow for fouls and not let incidents fester.

As I said recently, its not his fault if players insist on clipping each others ankles.

In fact, he did well if he blew for 40 odd fouls. Take away the keepers, and the strikers and thats about 3 fouls on average for each midfielder and defender, that is borderline with consistent fouling and more yellow cards ................. but there wasnt

Gave him a 3 - he was OK and he has been so much worse. I thought Cahill's sending off was right - it was a cynical foul designed to hurt Xabi - if it had been any later the follow-through would catch him in training tomorrow.

Got Torres goal wrong, Kuyt didn't push Lescott anymore than Lescott pushed Kuyt. Missed Failini's handball and was generous on one occasion to Pepe. Most of his booking were fair enough.

he got some things right, some things wrong, and he was a bit whistle-happy. seen him have worse games though.

and macca, this is a good idea so keep it up you idle f*ck.

Wow aren't you clever to analyse that all 43 fouls were for clipping ankles...

Maybe I should have added IMO at the end of my reply
