anny road Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 i remember coming home from school and My dad telling me, it was like an old uncle had died
charlie clown Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I remember we played Blackburn at home (I think it may have been the day Gerard made his home debut - but then again I may be wrong on the opposition and the debut) and it was a Shanks' anniversary, maybe 40th anniversay of him taking charge and there was a bit of pre-match celebration about it. I remember singing YNWA at the start of the match with tears streaming down my face and feeling like a complete girl but not really caring either.
Will Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Well, we've never played Blackburn on 29th September. and Stevie's debut was on 29th November 1998. Shanks' first game was 19 Dec 1959 You may be thinking of Coventry at home on 18 Dec 1999 which I remember RAOTL turning into a Shanks flag day
Spike Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 FFS Will!! Pedant kills constructed emotional memory
smithdown Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Remember the Swansea game just after he'd died? Was queues right up Kemlyn Rd to get onto The Kop, I don't think we got in til halfway through the first half. Incredibly sombre day, freezing cold and lashing down. Seem to remember it being really quiet inside even though the gate must have been ridiculously high.

New York Red Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I have two framed pictures of him on my office wall. He was inspirational. An icon. I loved that man.
floyd Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Still remember Bob Greaves reporting it on Granada Reports, on the day he died.

Andy Mac Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I was on the way to see Jaws on the cinema with my dad when I heard of his death on the radio. At least I think I was (unless Will tells me any different)

New York Red Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Swansea fans jeered in the minutes silence. Typical Jacks. No wonder Caruso got out of there.

At least I think I was (unless Will tells me any different) Jaws? A few years too late for that mate. Sure you're not thinking about when the great man retired?

Shanks' first game was 19 Dec 1959 You may be thinking of Coventry at home on 18 Dec 1999 which I remember RAOTL turning into a Shanks flag day feck knows - the only reason I have it set in mind that it was something to do with Gerrard's debut is that for that match AND for the Shanks anniversary I was in virtually the same seat - maybe it is a case of two completley separate games that have just drifted into one momentous occasion in my addled memory.
Mike Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Jaws? A few years too late for that mate. Sure you're not thinking about when the great man retired? could have been jaws 2 Edited September 30, 2008 by Mike
Hassony Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 could have been jaws 2 that was out in 78 and Jaws 3 was out in 83 so it can't be that either
