LondonLiverpoolFan Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Is shocking. Why is it so bad? We had 20 corners today and a few freekicks around the sidelines and I don't think a Liverpool head got to the ball first on a single occasion. The last time I can remember us scoring a few from corners etc was under GH when Gary Macca was taking them. From what I remember though, his delivery didn't seem to be much more than a floated chip into the area. Was our movement from setplays so much better back then?
Swipe Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Shocking. How many times do our corners fail to even beat first man. One indusputible area where Barry could have improved us. We're really terrible at them Our crossing was shocking for the entire game.
Jim D Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) Atrocious, it was the same last season, Rafa needs to pull his finger out and get the lads to practice attacking set plays on the training ground. They are so important in the modern game particularly if you are struggling to create anything from open play. The game today would have been a good time for us to do that. Romario Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 If Rafa is the tactical genius every claims then why does Gerrard do the same s*** week in week out.
John am Rhein Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I think Gerrard would be better used challenging for the ball in the air at corners or waiting around the edge of the box to shoot if/when a half-cleared ball falls there. Must be someone else to take the corners.
Swipe Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Aurelio was talking corners against United wasnt he?
Earl Hafler Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 If Rafa is the tactical genius every claims then why does Gerrard do the same s*** week in week out. It's the same with our defenders continuing to whack it long to forwards who don't appreciate that type of pass It's the same every game and yet i see no consistent improvements Riera is a good crosser of the ball yet no one attacked the first post.

That is one thing I've noticed about us, whether it is a corner or a cross not one player seems to take a risk/chance and go and attack the ball. Our players are so flat footed and much prefer to wait for the ball. Probably another factor in why our corners are so ridiculously poor. Edited September 20, 2008 by Jim D
Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Never mind our corners, what about the opposition's corners? Why on earth do we allow all the opponents' outfield players to get in our half or even our box by sticking every one of our players back in defence? If we left Torres and one other on the half way line, the opposition would be forced to reduce the numbers of their players in our box as they'd have to put three or four on our players.
Tyler Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 we do seem to be very poor from cornersdon't think gerrard should hit them alonso i think hits a better corner
Billy Dane Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 We clearly spend hours on the training ground practising them, Gerrard has even got the two hands brushing down the hair on the side of his head to tell everyone what he is going to do down to a fine art as well.
Guest Silkky Skillz Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 And the short corners, don't get me started. Does anyone think that s*** works?
Toni Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 bef***ing fair.we tried a all types of corners today. alonso, dossena, gerrard, riera, short ones, near post, far post. the ball just wouldnt go in.it was one of those games.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 last week our corners were decent. Guess who wasn't taking them? Gerrard is a goalscorer, he should be in the f***ing box
rahl Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Don't think it's the quality of the delivery in general (although some of them were really poor) but the players attacking them. Stevie (the usual taker), Torres and Agger are just about our best attackers of the ball. Sigh...

If there is a more abysmal side at corners in professional football - they must be really, really, really bad. Honestly, we need to kick the ball off for a goal kick and stop wasting the time - we would have had 10 more minutes to actually play football and try and set up a chance if we hadn't wasted all that time taking stupid corners.
Coyler Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 In fairness we did have quite a good free kick there at the start.
John am Rhein Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Is there any chance we practice corners on the training ground where the run-up Gerrard has before kicking the ball is significantly longer than it is at Anfield where he's more hemmed in by the stands?
AntM Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 we do seem to be very poor from cornersdon't think gerrard should hit them alonso i think hits a better cornerAlonso has been more shocking then the others recently

How f***ing annoying would it be if something like that was the cause? I actualy think it has got so bad that we shouldn't even cross it from a corner, a pass back to pepe is the way to go, at least we keep the ball.
San Diego Red Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) And we never score indirect free-kicks.Gerrard scored a bundle last season.Agger vs. Chelsea 06/07 We do, if we do them correctly. Edited September 22, 2008 by San Diego Red
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I don't think anyone's generally any good with corners. Read the guardian min-min commentary & they make a point of not commentating on corners because everyone's so predictable & rubbish at them
