Valleys Red Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Anyone know why Agger hasn't really had a look in so far this season? Seems very odd that he hasn't really played, and not even in the squad yesterday - or is he injured again?
uncle bob Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 simple - you must play Carragher and Skrtel has been awesome
Valleys Red Posted September 14, 2008 Author Posted September 14, 2008 i'm sure he wasn't even on the bench yesterday - is Sami really our 3rd best central defender, or was Rafa just keeping him sweet after the CL squad thing?
lfc003 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 No one deserves to be dropped plus he didn't look too great in pre season so im not surprised
Whitey Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 No one deserves to be dropped plus he didn't look too great in pre season so im not surprised I had read that he did look good in pre-season. Carra has been immense so far though, and Skrtel is a god!! Would like to see him given a chance soon though, he's still our best ball playing CB and gives another dimension.

He got first chance in the CL and looked short of where he needed to be, Skrtel has come in after injury, taken his chance and will take some moving while he's fit and in this form, as it should be.
aka Dus Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Didn't Elisha say he'd been looking 'immense' in training?
Chili Palmer Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 in that area in particular there is no need to rush him back, its great that we don't need to, but I still think that he will be our first choice cb by the end of the season.
Ronnie Whelan Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Didn't Elisha say he'd been looking 'immense' in training? yes he did.
Cooger Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Carragher and Skrtel are playing well and Agger has to force his way in. Skrtel has shown he can offer what Agger does - bring the ball out of defense when required. He'll get games, but he'll have to bide his time because Skrtel is rightfully keeping him out of the team.
Hassony Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I wouldn't Swap Skrtel with any defender from the league, not vidic, Terry or Ferdinand, Love him

Caramba Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 There's speculation in Danish media today that he will buy himself out of the contract for around 2.5 million in January.
Hassony Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 There's speculation in Danish media today that he will buy himself out of the contract for around 2.5 million in January. Has any player in the world ever done that yet?
Ronnie Whelan Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 There's speculation in Danish media today that he will buy himself out of the contract for around 2.5 million in January. WTF? Have you an English link to that?
muleskinner Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 There's speculation in Danish media today that he will buy himself out of the contract for around 2.5 million in January. Why would he want to do that?
Chili Palmer Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Why would he want to do that? He wants to play his football in Colombia.

Saw that over at TLW but i don't think it'll happen, hes too good a player for us to let him go that easily and given his age we'd be insane to lose him given that Carragher is at the stage of his career where he probably needs rest more often to remain sharp. At the moment we've only had 1 game a week and Carra and Skrtel have both been excellent, but we all know Agger is a top player and with the CL starting this week im sure he'll get his chances. Personally id play Agger & Skrtel for most of our home games (id play Carragher against the other top 4 and maybe a few others) we need to play them together and they are both good on the ball which is important in most home games when we see lost of possession.

Carra won't be happy!, He is still only 30, its not like he is 34 and needs to be rested Agger will just have to wait for his chance, if not stock than he will start the crewe game next week
alias75 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Carra won't be happy!, He is still only 30, its not like he is 34 and needs to be rested Agger will just have to wait for his chance, if not stock than he will start the crewe game next week I just think its important we keep a player of Aggers quality happy, because he can be a top player for us for the next 8-10 seasons. Even if it means playing Carragher at right back for certain games this season. I know you don't want to be making too many changes to a winning team and Carragher and Skrtel have both been excellent this season but last season Carragher showed signs that he can't play every game any more and retain that high level if it means hes rested for the odd game so be it, we lose his organisational skills but Agger offers other things which may be more important for certain home games like quality on the ball. I just think it would be a mistake to risk making someone like Agger unhappy because hes probably the best defender of his age group in Europe. We have 3 very good centre backs and if it means we rest Carragher for some games and Skrtel for some games so he doesn't get unhappy so be it. I think hes an important player for us because he does things no other center back here can, and not many defenders anywhere can do.
muleskinner Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Seems as though he is expecting a new contract offer and it hasn't been forthcoming.

I'd rather have him play 30 odd games for the next 4 years than run him into the ground over the next 2.
