Can't believe there's no thread already but despite missing the gilt-edged chance in the last few minutes, Dirk was MOM by a mile yesterday. Even in the first ten he was head and shoulders ahead of everyone, his movement and touch was second to none. He did about four people's running for them throughout the ninety and gave the splendid Ferdinand a torrid afternoon. When the team was short its two most significant attacking leaders he absolutely sood upto be counted and I'm still in awe of that performance. A man's man.

I thought Javier was MOM but the rest I agree with, I personally thought it was one of his best displays in a red shirt in the league and it is no surprise to me that it comes when he was played upfront.

Looking back at the highlights the 1st chance in the 1st half wasn't as much of chance as I thought it was, he had to hit it first time and the way the ball was he couldn't get it off the ground.

Dare I say a confident Dirk Kuyt would have scored at the end?

Mascherano was so far ahead of everyone on that park yesterday it was unreal. Dirk Diggler had a great game, i think what summed him up was in the second half he chased a ball back to VDS, while screaming at Keane to go to Evra to stop VDS having an easy option. VDS was then under serious pressure and scuffed his kick giving us possesson back. his committment and work rate is fantastic.

Maybe because too many have already decided he is total and irredeemable cr*p and are blind to any quality he shows? He was still getting slaughtered by the bitter misanthropes in the Moan Stand round by me, even late in the second half. Unbelievable, but sadly familiar.

(I'd still put Masch and Xabi ahead of him as MOM, but not by much)

where i sit in the Kop there are a couple of clowns with those yorkshire accents that make them sound even thicker than they probably are, who constantly moan about Kuyt. All game. Every game.

I thought it was a decent save at the end and maybe a not so tired Kuyt would have scored. He worked unbelievably hard even by his standards. And thats saying a lot. For me he is one of the first names on the team sheet. He is so so good. He might not be the most skillful player we have but I bet his work rate, attitude and enthusiasm gives his team mates a huge lift. If he is not good enough as a player to help us to a league win I will eat my hat. He is a hero..

I think the chances he missed mask the good work he did over the 90 mins, especially if you only watched the highlights (as plenty without Sky will have had to).

Or maybe because despite all the effort he loses a lot of possession through slack control and passing. Again MOM ratings are not all measured in buckets of sweat for some of us.

Masch was MOM by a mile, Dirk had a decent game and bothered their defence somewhat but he also missed 2 excellent chances to put the game away.

Played in his 'natural' position yday. Had a fine game he did. Always thought he was a decent striker myself, as long as he was playing alongside someone more technically skilled. Keane probably does the trick in that aspect. Dirk will always lack a bit coolness in front of goal though perhaps one of the reasons he didn't put one in the back of the net.

Oh, and Skrtel was MOM

When were the 2 excellent chances? I only remember 1 at the end which he should of scored but at least he hit the target.

You seem to forget he was the one that laid the ball back for Babel. He was very composed.

Masch was MOM for me though. Watched the game again today. He was all over the place.

dirk had a good game, should have had a few and his touch deserted him at key moments, but thats the way it is. no way was him mom by a mile, i didn't have him down as mom anyway...mascherano for me.

I know he played well but that's just whitewashing. His touch was second to none ? And he had 2 brilliant chances to score that he completely ballsed up - the last one was pathetic. Keane's yet to find his feet here but we've seen 2 years of that from Kuyt.

That said, he played better in the central role but allowed to drift wide.

A very good performance but you can't gloss over the misses

I thought Masch and Xabi played better and Riera didn't put in the same effort but showed more guile in 60 minutes than Kuyt has in 2 years - i'm surprised Skrtel has received votes in the top 3 as i thought our midfield and attack were much more involved. Anywho...

Fact is, i'd much rather have someone with more flair and creativity in the side than someone like Kuyt and soon Rafa is going to have to make a choice. Maybe he'll rotate Keane and Kuyt

It was hit at him. Should have been hit towards the space

bloody hell. he had a split second to react, he hit the target and van der sar made a great save.

Aye after watching the highlights it didn't seem half as bad as It did in the ground.

I watched the game again this morning and what surprised me most was how hard Robbie Keane worked. It was like having two Kuyts, the finishing was the only downside.

On second viewing Masch played even better than I remembered. Legend.
