Seamus Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) We should give them a call and say that they can have him for £200m Every player has a price. If the newly rich want to get all big time charlie and splash the cash around, I reckon we take it, clear the debt and build a new stadium. Edited September 3, 2008 by Seamus
Spike Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) We should give them a call and say that they can have him for £200m Every player has a price, and we'd have an unbelievable starting lineup for the game against Man U. If the newly rich want to get all big time charlie and splash the cash around, I reckon we take it, clear the debt and build a new stadium. NO! Edited September 3, 2008 by Spike

We may as well pack up and go home.
alias75 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I was going to post a new thread about this but thinking about it rationally if the new City owners are serious and they're going to be bidding silly money for players we'd have to accept, the one proviso is if the ownership doesn't change. If we have our own billionaire then of course we should keep our best players but there are a few reasons why we'd have to accept. 1. If they really are going to be bidding £100 million plus for the best players in the world we'd have to accept, that sort of money would ease the burden of loan repayments and allow the manager to buy 3 world class players. Lets say as an example City offer us £175 for Gerrard and Torres we'd have to accept, of course a large proportion of that money would have to be put back into the team but assuming it is say G+H use £60 million to ease the loan repayments that leaves £115 million which could buy 5-6 top notch players. 2. The second reason why we'd HAVE to accept and this is probably the most important reason, if City are going to be spending huge amounts of money on players better is goes to us and not our rivals. If they are serious we're no longer competing with them in the transfer market, BUT there are enough top quality players to go round if you have enough money. So lets say we take the moral high ground and refuse to sell Torres for £100m they then go and bid for somebody from Villa or Spurs or Arsenal and all of a sudden a rival has a huge amount of money to improve their teams. Its not a nice thing to think about but if this silly money is going to be thrown around it really would be in our best interests to sell as many players to City as possible for outrageous amounts of money because that would allow us to strengthen the team. If we don't other teams will and we'll fall even further behind. Im not sure if the people at City have thought this through, if they are serious about bidding £130 million for Ronaldo yes its great PR and one up on Utd but do they really want to give one of their main rivals the means to sign 4 or 5 Berbatov level players? Chelsea have learnt that lesson pretty quickly which is why they didnt get Robinho, its fine throwing huge amounts of money around but that money is going to rival teams and allowing them to strengthen. Its a horrible way to think but unless we get our own billionaire at the club that can secure our future financially we'd be stupid not to take advantage of the initial splurge if the City owners are going to go bezerk.

Uncle Bob will be handing a print out of this to Hicks any second now.
John am Rhein Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 We should give them a call and say that they can have him for £200m Don't give them ideas! They'll do that and pay it to themselves as a dividend.
Athelstan Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 If they bought everybody then they could have their own league. Save an awful lot of time and stress.
psl Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 If they're that rich, they can give us £500m for him.
alias75 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Uncle Bob will be handing a print out of this to Hicks any second now. I know its a horrible way to think, but my first thought when i heard City could be offering huge amounts of money for players like Torres and Gerrard was this could be a way for G+H to stick around, if we were offered something like £150 million for those two. Now obviously if that did happen a large percentage of it would have to be invested back into the team but i think my 2nd point is the more pertinent one, if they're not spending huge amounts of money on our players they'll be giving it to teams that are real rivals in the transfer market. City can only buy 16-20 players there are plenty of great players out there if you have the means. Of course id hate us to lose Torres or Gerrard but the truth is with £100 million plus they can be replaced with players that are at a very close level and other areas of the team can be improved too. Of course G+H could sell the players and keep the money for themselves in which case it really is game over.
Murphman Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 NO! Incredible isn't it? £100m, just enough to buy Darren Bent and pay of their debts at The Texas Lone Stars and The Vancouver Vampires. Once the penny's dropped that we could sell Gerrard and Torres to a club who wish to 'make a statement' for a galillion quid those two c*nts will be hanging on like grim death.

They'd sell them in the January window on the last day, designate all the money to Rafa, leave Parry in charge whilst we f*ck about arguing over a few coppers then sell up at the end of August just as our new manager comes in.. Hobbsie Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Sell Torres for silly money, then use some of it to buy Goodison Park and flatten it
fyds Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 1. I can't be the only one thinking Rafa would go to Hicks and say 'Right - how much of that money can I use to restructure the team?' and Hicks saying 'What Money?' while showing him the white eared elephant.
Guest Ant Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Someone didn't just try to justify selling our best players to flatten the debt? You see thats the sort of thing Hicks and Gillett want. They get the debt paid off, they don't have to sell, they have a stadium on the go and they don't have to do f*** all.
killiered Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 You DO NOT sell your better players to rival teams. It`s an admission that you are not at their level. Two examples from the Mancs: [1]They bought Andy Cole from Newcastle for £7m [an amount Keegan thought too good to turn down]. They strengthened themselves and neutered Newcastle in one go. This has been Fergusons policy down the line, and the Old Firms policy forever in Scotland. [2]Look at the fuss SAF made of us wanting to buy Heinze. An average to good player. He didn`t wanna sell simply because it was us. You DO NOT sell your better players to rival teams. Ever.
