CarraLegend Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Weird question but its something thats been bugging me. Look at Standard tonight, everytime we got the ball, foul, foul, foul, foul, Wengers best teams were masters at it with Vieira, Gilberto and the like, around the half way line 20 yards each way, foul, foul, foul, Scholes does it non stop, Makelele does it, Essien does it, Lampard does it, Ballack does it. They dont let anyone find a rythm and the fouls arent enough on their own to get a card, it's just a little nudge, a tiny shirt pull or something. Tonight in about the 25th minute of ET they were nearly in on goal because we were seemingly scared to take him out 40 yards out, I'm sure everyone remembers Walcotts run, why wasnt he wiped the f*** out? Masch will certainly improve things and Lucas isnt afraid of kicking people so hopefully it improves but it does my head in sometimes, we just let people walk through and try and tackle them. Thats not bad but there are just some occasions when you need to make someone eat some mud. It's only a minor thing but it just irritates me.
abc Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Alonso was chasing that guy but what he needed to do was bear hug the big fella after the first attempt at a tackle, get a yellow, and the danger would have been averted. IIRC this was the play when their striker got released on the left but was offside? Lucky moment, a smarter striker would have been able to time his run better, he was looking across the line too... It's not a minor thing IMO, it's pretty crucial killing potential goalscoring moves early on, far up the pitch as possible.

meepins Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Perfect signing to meet our cynical fouling needs.

Defo, it like that Gudjohnsen chance, even now you expect it to hit the net when you see it. How he wasnt wiped out is beyond me and it very nearly ended our CL hopes, small margins and all that.

How he wasnt wiped out is beyond me and it very nearly ended our CL hopes, small margins and all that. Most of the players he went past weren't even on yellow cards. Obviously I'd never suggest the brutal fouling of an opposition player and am all in favour of fair play, but just cleave the little midget out.

mathewbet1 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Carra does good 'tactical fouls' when needed. Ok at end of game not so clever at start of game.
Cam Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Masch does it occasionally, as does Alonso. Arbeloa does it all the time and it winds me up.
CaptainXabi Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Everytime I see the reply of that I'm always waiting for someone to clean him out.Didi Hamann would have had Walcott on the ground at the halfway line no questions asked. I love Didi.
