Jezzman Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 ------------------------Reina (25)-----------------------Arbeloa (25)-Skrtel (23)-Agger (23)-Insua (19)--El Zhar (21)-Masch © (24)-Leiva (21)-Babel (21)----------Torres (24)-------N'Gog (19)------------- Average age 22.2 years. Guess that team could do pretty damn well ! That's without lots of young talent: Plessis (20), Nemeth (19), Hansen (18), Spearing (19) and Pacheco (17)... Darby, Mendy, Duran etc...
Rimbeux Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I think it's fair comment to say our average age has been decently young for over a decade, since the days of the aging Kenny sides and later Rush and Barnes soldiering on. The issue has been a succession of talent losing it's way before the peak years and a lot of promising players proving to be as average as many of the mid age signings have been, leading to another failed regime and another cull.

Jezzman Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 It might be my memory playing tricks on me but I can't remember us having this many young players who I actually think can make it to the top level. That said they might not make it and I might be overly confident (as usual)
CaptainXabi Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 El Zhar? You got a bit desperate there towards the end of the starting 11 didn't you?

alias75 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I just think its also a general trend of players maturing at a younger and younger age, now once a player gets to 20-21 if he isnt in the first team hes almost written off which is crazy. But the spine of our team looks very strong and they are all in that early / middle 20's age group so they could play together for the next 5-6 years. Theres also the flip side in that players are also playing longer now because they look after themselves better, someone like Gerrard could easily play into his mid 30's who knows by the time his career is coming to an end we might actually see the best right back in the world actually play right back

Palace fought back in the second period and reduced the arrears to just one goal, but Hugh McAuley's men held on to pick up three well deserved points.
