Admittedly I have only seen the guy play on a few occasions, but I never remember neing too impressed.

None of these guys are world beaters, but I was amazed to see El Zhar preferred to the likes of Pennant, Voronin, and Nemeth on the bench yesterday.

Fair enough if Pennant and Vornin are on their way out of the club, which is hopefully the case.

Anyone shed any light on El Zhar's sudden promotion - is he up to it?

He's clearly bulked up, which he needed to. Did alright, didn't show much creatively but maintained his position and did the hard work, as required at that stage.

I can only think that Rafa wanted another winger/ attacking midfielder on the bench. Pennant might be sold, Lucas and Babbel at in Beijing and N'Gog, Nemeth, etc are strikers.

I thought he did alright when he came on yesterday. And seriously, people can't be complaining that he's ahead of Voronin in the pecking order ;) The only one I was surprised he came on ahead of was Ngog. But his chances will arrive.

Sure El Zhar isnt a world beater, but he's not a bad option to have in the squad. I like the guys attitude, he's a confident young player.

I pressume that Pennant may be sold before the transfer window shuts, and maybe Rafa didnt' want to risk him.

i dont think Rafa will put N'gog wide....hence Nabil coming on

i think he is still a little lightweight, but he did his job yesterday

what i've seen of him in pre-season is that he's a bit of a skillful player. but like with most of our new players, it's all about confidence playing for the first XI, they will prob be nervous at first but will grow. can you imagine playing with torres, gerrard and keane, i would be sh*tting myself. anyway i think el zhar has most first team appearance out of all the youth reserves if i can recall correctly.

I think his attitude may have changed, I remember hearing some rumours that El Zhar was 'too big for his boots'...Seems to be very focussed.

Too good for the ressies but not good to play for us i think.

No offence to him because hes only a young player with minimal experience but i think if we want to be challenging for the PL we have to have better squad options than him in the attacking positions. Obviously the fact we want to sell Pennant and Voronin influenced his appearance yesterday as well as players like Babel being away but we must do better in those attacking positions.

We have 3 first team squad players away. Once they're back I think we'll se much less of El Zhar. I think he's a decent player, but instinctively I don't think he's gonna turn out anything special.

You referring to Babel, Mascherano and Leiva?

Doubt any of those will play right wing.

He's blatently not good enough. playing him/keeping him as a squad player is an insult to all the better youngsters we have who can't get a game or have been loaned out.

I think it's more likely that Babel would be asked to play wide right as a sub than El Zhar

I think, despite the fact that his naturally right-footed, he is still a better left winger than right winger.

he's a decent replacement for Pennant i feel, He won't start games but he is good enough to be used as a impact player.

More a case of Babel was very successfully used as an impact sub last year. When Babel starts it's likely that Benayoun will be on the bench rather than El Zhar. And simply having 3 important players returning to the squad means it's gonna be harder for El Zhar to get on the bench, even with 7 subs.

He was a star in the reserves final against Villa last year.

He's also the best winger in the reserves at present.

And to be honest, I don't think there is any 'blatantly not good enough' about it. He came on yesterday and did what he was asked to do. There was little scope for flair yesterday when we were working to close the game down and keep the score at 1-0. Conservative play was the order of the day, and he had the good sense to keep the ball when he got it and work hard when he didn't.

My God some of our fans are stupid.

I can't really tell yet whether he's going to be good enough or not, but it's certainly not "blatently" obvious.

Everyone complains that Rafa chooses Voronin and that he should put a younger player on, when he does then it's "Oh my God why is Nabeeeeel Ellll Czar playing, I've been watching him his whole career and he's blatantly not good enough, we should break the bank for Mancini."

agreed, babel is going to play on the left a la henry  and rafa said he's going to play on the left. sometimes i think people put out the formations they would use rather than what rafa is gong to use. sometimes we have to put ourselves in the shoes of the manager and think as he does. forget what we want, its about how rafa wants to play

I hope nobody is asked to play right wing personally, I hope it becomes a redundant position
