Brutus the barber Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Fabio Capello has confirmed he will name England's next captain two days before next week's friendly versus Czech Republic. The England boss has rotated the skipper's armband as part of a policy that will see him announce the permanent captain ahead of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is reportedly the favourite to land the role, although he faces strong competition from the likes of Steven Gerrard and John Terry. Capello will confirm the appointment prior to England's final friendly before they take on Andorra in their first 2010 World Cup qualifier. Qualification"I will announce the captain two days before the game," said the Italian. "I will speak with the captain just a moment before I tell the rest of the squad, then everyone else will find out." Capello also expressed his confidence that he will lead England to South Africa following the country's infamous failure to qualify for Euro 2008. He added: "We are a very good team. "It is always the same. For us, the opponent is not important. The important thing is what we do. "We will qualify for the World Cup. We will be in South Africa. I am sure of it." Chili Palmer Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I hope he gets so pissed off at not getting it and retires from international football with immediate effect. but I'm selfish like that...
AE Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Going to be that **** from down the East Lancs RoadHope the ****** gets sent off in a really important game (not SG of course!)
uncle bob Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I would like him to get it but its now unlikely a Chairman Steptoe aka Gary Neville has advised Capello to select Ferdinand - you know the gut who takes porno movies on holiday and cannot remember he has a drugs test. Great role model!!!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm sure he'd be made up to get it, so for that reason I hope he does. my gut feeling is that he won't, though.
surf Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I hope SG gets it, it will be a massive boost for him. He's a confidence player and think getting the captaincy will help his performances. Besides, it means a lot to him and on that basis alone anyone that doesn't want him to get it is just being selfish.
San Diego Red Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Got a feeling that the donkey will get it.
Ethan Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Rio will get it - he's been doing a load of Charity work recently to balance off that whole drugs test no show and Engerlund have been waiting on that to be done.
Zoob Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Great. This thread has reminded me of what I try to forget each year - the stupid pointless anger making international friendly that comes along at the start of every new season. For what it's worth, I think Ferdinand will get it. The England football team needs a captain who is really good at kicking female stewards, and it makes sense for him to take over from the racist thug who was appointed captain by SCS .
RedHarvest Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I think he'll get it, he's the best player and Capello wont appoint poitically. Hope not though, it's a media distraction we could do without.
Maldini Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Terry was 2/1 on the other day on Betfair but has slipped out to 3/2. Ferdinand was 5/2 but is now 5/4 on.
CaptainXabi Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I hope he does. He seems to want it, which is good enough for me.
Guest spk Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 deinitely not. thought frankly none of those lot should.
Gomez Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 The drugs cheat will get it. Just to send the right message out to the kids.
Skillz Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Being an Aussie I couldn't care except that I think Stevie should get it. He's been excellant for 18 months now IMO as our captain.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I don't even think he should have the LFC captaincy. Don't care about the english one
Jarg Armani Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 @ macca - correct, and very concisely put. close thread.
So Cal Red Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I hope he gets so pissed off at not getting it and retires from international football with immediate effect.but I'm selfish like that... hehehe
