Boca Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Babel going as well now. Half our midfield will be out there for a s***ty no mark competition. Echo
Boca Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 I was hoping for an actual joke. If you insist.... ...George W. Bush begins his speech to open the Olympic games. "Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh." An aide rushes up and whispers "Mr. President, those are the Olympic rings. Your speech is underneath!"
matlfc Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) Which games they gonna miss? nevermind, boro and sunderland. Edited July 9, 2008 by matlfc
AE Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Which games they gonna miss? The Olympic ones if Rafa has his way
Dan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Really disappointed with all of our players who are insisting on going instead of starting the season with us. You don't grow up as a footballer wanting to play in the f*ckin Olympics - its a load of b*llocks. We should have taken a harder stance like Milan have done with Kaka.
johngibo YPC Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) You don't grow up as a footballer wanting to play in the f*ckin Olympics How do you know?I'd love to play in the OlympicsOr did you think Mascherano grew up dreaming of playing at Sunderland Edited July 9, 2008 by johngibo YPC
Guest SpiritualWarrier Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 A s***ty no mark competition is a 5-a-side football league, This is the Olympic Games.
DJS Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 In footballing circles, it's a no mark competition. Not even recognised by FIFA - and they'll recognise most things where there's a buck involved.
McBain Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) Without looking. Who won it last time? Edited July 9, 2008 by Mcbain
Dan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 How do you know?I'd love to play in the OlympicsOr did you think Mascherano grew up dreaming of playing at Sunderland I'd imagine Mascherano grew up dreaming of playing for a top team like Liverpool. The Olympics for a top pro footballer is b*llocks. Just my opinion.
Gomez Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Without looking. Who won it last time?Argentina wasn't it? Isn't that why Masch wants to go, so he can be the first player ever to retain it?
Boca Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 A s***ty no mark competition is a 5-a-side football league, This is the Olympic Games. For a sprinter or high jumper I can understand that the Olympics is the most important event of their careers but footballers have World Cups, European Championships and Copa America's in international terms and the Champions League and their National Championship for their club.
Guest SpiritualWarrier Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 With all due respect, how do you know what Babel and Mascherano have dreamt about? The Olympic Games is the Olympic Games, there is no escaping that fact, remember the Argies are alot more patriotic than us lot.

johngibo YPC Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I'd imagine Mascherano grew up dreaming of playing for a top team like Liverpool. And he'll get to do that and play in the Olympics in the same monthGreat isn't it
Dan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 And he'll get to do that and play in the Olympics in the same monthGreat isn't it Not really no
CaptainXabi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 It's hard to blame the young (i.e. under-23) players. But this nonsense of 3 overage players should be dropped.
honourablegeorge Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 It's hard to blame the young (i.e. under-23) players. But this nonsense of 3 overage players should be dropped. The nonsense is professional athletes being called for an amateur competition. Should be youngsters only.
Hassony Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 In footballing circles, it's a no mark competition. Not even recognised by FIFA - and they'll recognise most things where there's a buck involved. I am not sure about this as I have heard Blatter in the past backing this competition
Spike Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I was hoping for an actual joke. I went to the doctor's the other day and he told me I had to stop w***ing. I asked him why and he replied 'because I'm trying to examine you'
MFletcher Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I'm of the opinion that the Olympics shouldn't feature sports where winning a gold medal is not the pinnacle of your career. However, we can't prevent the likes of Babel, Lucas and Insua being called up because they are under the age limit. We could block Mascherano going, but he is clearly taking huge pride in being selected and has already said that he would love to be the first player to retain the championships. There's nothing we can do. It's not an either/or choice for the players as well, they're only missing three games.
dorgie Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I went to the doctor's the other day and he told me I had to stop w***ing. I asked him why and he replied 'because I'm trying to examine you' .......and the George Bush one wasn't bad neither.
