LondonRed Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Can somone explain to me why Liverpool FC have given their support to AFC Liverpool? They are a load of guys who have broken away and decided to open their own club. I've just been reading the interview on lfc.tv and the reason they started this club is because they were missing out on going to matches at anfield even though they are all 'passionate supporters', they have also been given a letter of support from a certain Mr Parry. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/features/th...080707-1153.htm
Gunga Din Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 agree totally. its not like there is a shortage of non league clubs in the merseyside area, and th eones that already exist wuld welcome new supporters.
Falconhoof Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Its a covert operation to raise a feeder club eventually up into league football. Then Rafa can play the reserves in a stronger league.Parry is going to be the goalkeeping coach.
CarraLegend Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Can somone explain to me why Liverpool FC have given their support to AFC Liverpool? f*** knows and it pisses me off loading up the official website and seeing a load of s***ty articles about a team I couldnt care less about. They're nothing to do with us so why on earth we are given them public support and space on the official site is baffling.

LondonRed Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) is it just an excuse to get themseleves heard by using the liverpool name? imo these are just rent boys, they say there liverpool supporters who want to go to liverpool matches, but AFC Liverpool have nothing in common with LFC apart from a name. 'f*** off afc, you aint got no history....' Edited July 7, 2008 by LondonRed
Tones Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Dont know why the club has given them their support, and really dont understand why they have been set up in the first place.

To be honest that has seriously crossed my mind!A while ago Rafa was campaigning for reserve teams to be allowed in League 1/2 like in Spain
Falconhoof Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 To be honest that has seriously crossed my mind!A while ago Rafa was campaigning for reserve teams to be allowed in League 1/2 like in Spain They couldn't be openly seen to do it.How many seasons of promotion would they be from the conference ? Anyone know the non-league structure ?

LondonRed Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 To be honest that has seriously crossed my mind!A while ago Rafa was campaigning for reserve teams to be allowed in League 1/2 like in Spain i see your point, but i doubt rafa would do that with AFC liverpool though. that would mean he'd have to give them championship and league 1/2 quailty players (regardless of their age) to a non league team, which could seriously damage the progression of those players having to play with low quailty opposition and also not being able to get the quailty of coaching to make them into better players. he'd be better off loaning players out to local clubs in higher divisions.

johngibo YPC Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 why would better players want to play for AFC rather then a team in say a higher division straight away? Money i guessIf they get conference crowds then they can pay conference wages
PLY Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Money i guessIf they get conference crowds then they can pay conference wagesThey're only paying them the average for that level. Any player moving will probably be doing so to play in front of crowds , the average crowd at that level is 65

But if they get big crowds then surely they will pay more to get better players
PLY Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 At the moment. But if they get big crowds then surely they will pay more to get better playersI think it's more likely that money will increase in line with the level that they're playing at. They haven't got a sponsor as yet so money will be needed to support the teams including youth level and womens teams and I'd also think if it takes off they'd be looking to get a ground up inside the Liverpool boundaries so that will take a fair bit of wedge

The media exposure has been quite good already (a tv spot on lfctv, as well as the lfc website, the echo, non-league papers and websites etc - and that'll probably continue for a good while as the season progresses Their own site got nearly 1million hits last month) They've already got some merchandise ready in scarves and badges - I'd imagine shirts, polos, stickers etc will be ready soon too. Should be interesting to see what the crowds are going to be numbers-wise for the home games - and if AFCL can maintain that interest and then build on it. Fair play to everyone involved - in such a short space of time they've done very well to have everything ready and organised for the new season - just hope things go as well on the pitch - and everyone enjoys it. The whole 'why don't you just support an existing team instead of starting a new one' argument is not really relevant IMHO. Imagine if everybody would have thought that way in 1892 , we'd all be Bloos! Edited July 8, 2008 by PLY

Imagine if everybody would have thought that way in 1892 , we'd all be Bloos! It sort of is relevant if you are using someone elses ground though. It means they are not really a Liverpool team at allIf there were no other alternatives i would support them. But i don't really see the point to be honest.
lfc4eva99 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Silly question, but what does AFC stand for exactly?
