scoose Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I am very surprised him going to Galatasary after playing for leeds. I am not pointing any fingers at all about what happened in Istanbul with Leeds as I dont have the facts and I have no problem at all with Galatasary. But it seems to me money matters to this man more than anything else. He allegedley was offered a contract to stay here with a wage drop. Considering he had hardly played I think he should have had the decency to take it and negotiate a rise based on appearances. Then to go where he has gone I think is at best insensitive if he had any care at all for Leeds. Personally I'm not keen on leeds and it doesnt bother me in the least but I think it shows a fair bit about Kewells priorities. I mean its not like he's skint is it?
Billy Dane Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Also find it odd that his wife agreed to go to Turkey, thought she was trying to rebuild her acting career and wanted to move to London?
Guest Raisbeck Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Or maybe he fancied moving somewhere warm away from a league were he has basically stagnated. Its also a pretty cool club to play for, the atmosphere is pretty awesome, be quite an experience if he is ever fit enough to play a game.
Hassony Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Two leeds fans were murdered in turkey, Galatasary and the majority of their fans had nothing at all to do with that, Kewell is free to move to them if he feels they offer the best deal for his career at the moment, it will mean that he won't have to travel far for his national team as they are playing in asia.
Hassony Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Perhaps they offered him the most money nothing is wrong with that, most of us will move to the company that offers us the most money
Falconhoof Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) Why is it an insult to Leeds ? I don't get that. Does a state of war exist between the 2 clubs ?Obviously it was tragic what happened to those Leeds fans but what better way to build bridges than to send a washed up Aussie with no pace and appalling tattoos ? Guest Ant Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I can see where Leeds fans are coming from with this.
Hassony Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I can see where Leeds fans are coming from with this. If you watch videos of how the leeds fans behaved that night (I think football factories did a program on that) you will know they weren't innocent in the whole tragic affair Do you think an ex Juventus player shouldn't move to Liverpool because it will upset some Juvi fans?
Guest Scot Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 nothing is wrong with that, most of us will move to the company that offers us the most money absolutely. I mean it really might have been that simple.
Rich Gobey Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Oh the moral outrage! So what will be the opinion of any player who ever joins us from Juventus, like Ian Rush perhaps?

On one hand it makes some sense but I think it may show greediness that should not be surprising amongst modern footballers. If I had his kind of money I'm not sure I'd move my whole family to Istanbul to earn more wedge (much as I like Istanbul ;-). I think it may show that he feels his career is on its last legs and hes trying to earn as much as he can before the injuries f*** him altogether

If I had the choice between Istanbul and Newcastle I think I would go for Istanbul as well, maybe Roma was an option too but he didn't want to be a team mate of Riise again!
Guest GrandpaSimpson Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Only problem I have with Kewell on this, is that he f***ed off on us when there was less money on the table than his previous contract. Rafa (especially) supported him through his whole Liverpool career. I would have saved some of the s*** Riise (good servant through the years) got in the other thread and given it to Kewell, but thats just my opinion.

Very good point well made sir. Imagine you moved to Italy then had to play in front of f***en Riise again! It just seemed wierd cos his missus is or was on about sorting a career in acting out again. Unless she got a job on a turkish soap then I dont see how that would work out. Then again I suppose its a shorter commute if she fancied bollywood ;-) Than again maybe Harry fancies a pint in Taksim

I agree with that, but then again we don't know how much less we offered him, maybe he was on 70k and we offered him 20k, do you think any other player would accept such dropdown in salary?

I can understand him going abroad etc - just pissed me off that as soon as his wedge was to drop all loyalty owed back was forgotten. I think he a mercenary c*** to be honest. The Galatasary thing was just something I thought was interesting considering his leeds history. I genuinely think he'd f*** anyone over for more money

I genuinely think he'd f*** anyone over for more money Didn't we offer him a pay as you play related deal - with his injury record understandable but hardly a show of commitment by the club. Which would you take if on teh one hand you might actually earn nothing whereas elsewhere you could get a guaranteed £40K+ a week for 2 years? I know which I would take especially when it could be the lats money I ever earn
DaveLFC Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Seeing the words Turkey and Kewell together does not seem weird to me at all. I wanted Kewell to be the player he was at leeds more than anyone else, I wanted him to capture that old Harry Kewell. But injuries decided against that. If as reoprted he turned down a new contract as it was less money then he should be ashamed of himself. The club have stood by him, paid his wages and done their best by him. For him to walk away without trying to pay somehing back to the club and the fans says a lot about the man. Good riddance.
Guest PaulMcC Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 What were the Leeds fans that got killed up to?
