Andrea Dossena has today put pen to paper on a four-year Anfield deal. The Italian full-back becomes Rafael Benitez's second acquisition of the summer following the arrival of Swiss international Philipp Degen.

Dossena, who has been capped once at senior level by Italy, is seen as the ideal replacement for John Arne Riise, who departed for Roma earlier this month.

The 26-year-old began his career aged 14 with Hellas Verona in northern Italy, coming through the ranks before spending four seasons in the senior squad.

His big break came when he signed for Udinese in 2005, though he was immediately loaned to Treviso FBC 1993 for a year.

The defender returned to the Stadio Friuli ahead of the 2006-07 campaign, where his form eventually saw him make his international bow in a friendly against South Africa in October 2007.

By the end of the season his move to Merseyside had been confirmed, with Dossena saying: "Liverpool are a great team, and it is great to be linked to such a famous club. I want to play Champions League football, the Reds have already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level as Manchester United."

So is he officially s*** as well? Be good to know now to avoid any confusion later

Well, seeing as I watch the Serie A week-in week-out, then yes, I do think he's s**** and you'll see that as the season progresses.

To think we could've bid for a top-quality defender like Lahm.

Let's hope Aurelio is not injured this season.

Better off hoping the sun doesn't rise tomorrow.

Serie A and the Bundesliga week in week out? Which do you choose when they clash?

Even though Lahm is really a right back and got shown up in both semi and final of the Euros - but hey, he's a big name player that we've all heard of so he must be better eh!!

Sorry but after watching the Bundesliga week-in week-out, I really think Degen is s***. And so do all the Borussia fans. He even had his place taken from him by another player recently. It's just a case of you get what you pay for, and let's hope Arbeloa will be our first-choice right-back.

Now I know you're on a wind-up, you daft bellend.

He was never going to leave Bayern, anyway, just wanted a raise. I don't he'd cope in the English game, he's too small (add the desired smiley here)

exactly, too quick to jump in with an obvious WUM comment there. Not that there was ever much doubt

I watch every game of football that is played on this planet and every player that we have been linked with and are yet to be linked with is s***.

I think he just pities Lahm. This way, Lahm will only be brushed aside by Torres during training, not with millions around the world watching.

Is it a 'possibility' that there are lots of unrequired handbags on the Forum today? No?

Back to topic - glad Dossena has finally signed....was a little concerned with the 'delays' but if you read Rick's report on the Offal he's been busy ;)

Cant wait to see this guy play. A quality full back can add a lot to a team's attacking play and there have been a fair few positive reports about Dossena.

The best thing about that post is that you actually appear to have a desire to be taken seriously.

Nothing like eternal optimism

Isn't he the same stupid c*** who was replying to his own posts a little while back? 'Oh yes, I agree, excellent point'.

t***.

As for Dossena, remember reading (possibly that Elisha?) that Capello reckons he's an astute buy, but time will tell I suppose.

As I've said elsewhere, he's another I know nothing about so await his performances with interest.

The fact he's pish in the latest version of footie manager should be ignored for now, I think ;)

Guess it means that we now have Aurelio available for midfield duties, I seem to remember Rafa saying he's a better passer of the ball that Xabi, could be more than useful down the left.. dare i say it... crossing the ball.
