floyd the barber Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) Are we too possibly see a slightly different formation this coming season...interesting how Rafa states his strength is offensive and will improve us in the wide areas... ------------------------reina----------------------------------skrtel---------------agger-------------degen------------------------------------dossena---------------masch------barry-----------------------kuyt-------------------------downing/babel/?---------------------gerrard---------------------------------------------torres------------------------- This with the reliance of Agger being back and us having more pace, this can allow the back line to push up more..with especially the full backs able to get forward, i also see it highly likely kuyt will remain right side....his boundless energy..perfect to cope with the rampaging runs forward from Degen. I can it being a season of big change at the back(obviously)...with jamie carragher possibly shifting into being more of a squad man...with him in the side, theres no way we would be able to play with 2 attacking full backs and keep a high line. Looking at the above, thats a friggin good side......not sure about our left and i hope we do get someone better than downing, though he is a fantastic crosser of the ball something we have lacked, for me gerrard and finnan provide excellent crosses..with the rest of the squad being far behind. John am Rhein Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 with jamie carragher possibly shifting into being more of a squad man I'll believe it when (if) I see it.
floyd the barber Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 I'll believe it when (if) I see it. If we want to progress and go up to the next level...i seriously think it needs to happen. Pains me to say it as..like all of us, love carra......but consistently week in-week out...we really need a step up, more pace..better distrubution But saying all of that, Agger hasnt kicked a ball in 9 months.....we have no clue as to how long/ or if he will ever recover the form he showed before.
Guest Rafa's Receding Hairline Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Sorry but after watching the Bundesliga week-in week-out, I really think Degen is s***. And so do all the Borussia fans. He even had his place taken from him by another player recently. It's just a case of you get what you pay for, and let's hope Arbeloa will be our first-choice right-back.

You've not given him a chance and hasn't he been injured this last season?
cymrococh Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I'm seriously getting sick of people writing Degen off before he plays. He may well be sh*t for us, he may not. Let's wait and see eh?
Stevie H Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I'm seriously getting sick of people writing Degen off before he plays. He may well be sh*t for us, he may not. Let's wait and see eh?it's pathetic isn't it? give the lad a chance for christ's sake.
cymrococh Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I don't think Arbeloa is good enough to be first-choice right back though.
Guest Sabre Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Something that I'm sure has been mentioned before, but I think I read that Dossena is strong going forwards. Is he also able to tuck in and play a sort of left sided centre back role? This is essential if you're going to have cover when someone (and it could be anyone of Degen/Arbeloa/Dossena/Skrtel/Agger) drives forward to create space.
Leo No.8 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Sorry but after watching the Bundesliga week-in week-out, I really think Degen is s***. And so do all the Borussia fans. He even had his place taken from him by another player recently. Its hardly surprising he had his place taken recently when he's been injured and hasn't played 'recently' is it? Bearing this in mind and the fact that try to add weight to your views by speaking for the many Borussia Dortmund fans around the world when you haven't got a f*cking clue what they think, I'll ignore you and make my own mind up ta. Whether people agree with a signing or not, anyone pronouncing a player Rafa brings in just to be 'sh*t' makes you look a complete idiot in my book - as if you've got the right to suggest you're so much cleverer than the manager. You may watch the Bundesliga week in week out (doubtful anyway) but if the brain behind the eyes watching is stupid enough it doesn't make you worth listening to even if you're watching the 90 minute re-runs in slow motion as well. What makes you qualified to know so much better than a vastly experienced, incredibly knowledgable football coaching professional like Rafa Benitez, that you can declare a player he thinks has the right attributes for Liverpool Football Club simply to be 'sh*t'? My major issue with the Degen signing isn't with his ability but his injury record. Everyone has their own views on players that are brought in and I disagree with Rafa sometimes; I wouldn't have signed a player with Degen's injury record personally, but I'd certainly trust his decision over a plant pot like you. Lets leave this one for when we've seen him play a few times at Liverpool and come back to it, because from the little I've seen of him (compared to someone like you who w*nks off to The Bundesliga every week) ability wise I think he might be pretty good in our formation if he can stay fit.
Leo No.8 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) Aye And why are you agreeing with him when you've said yourself on another thread that you've never seen Degen play? On what grounds are you basing your agreement? At least Rafa's Receding Hairline pretends he's the Bundesliga's most avid watcher, you could at least do that. How anyone can give a view on what role a player they've said themselves they've never seen play should take in our squad next season is completely beyond me, its absolutely bonkers. John am Rhein Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 after watching the Bundesliga week-in week-out my sympathies
Knoxy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Bizarre that Carra is being left out of so many formation type posts. He's our first choice and best defender and will remain so
Fastardo Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I'm seriously getting sick of people writing Degen off before he plays. He may well be sh*t for us, he may not. Let's wait and see eh? I'm prepared to wait until 15 minutes into his debut before I write him off.
Chili Palmer Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Bizarre that Carra is being left out of so many formation type posts. He's our first choice and best defender and will remain so forever?
Chili Palmer Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I'm prepared to wait until 15 minutes into his debut before I write him off. Just watch him warm up then decide...
fred milne Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Bizarre that Carra is being left out of so many formation type posts. He's our first choice and best defender and will remain soMy guess is that Carra and Agger will be our first choice pairing but with Rafa you never know. He's shown a ruthless streak with Alonso so its not beyond reason that Carra could be next - after all he didn't have a vintage campaign last year.

Flasher Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Carra was knackered last season. Wehn fit he will start in all the big games. Agger and Skrtle will be paired together against the lesser teams to give Carra a break. That's my opinion anyway. Carra and Agger will be first choice when fit. Skrtel is Carra's long term relpacement.
johngibo YPC Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Bizarre that Carra is being left out of so many formation type posts. He's our first choice and best defender and will remain so Its far to early either to write Carra off or to presume Agger is ready to be starting week in week outAnd someone needs to marshall the defence
Stevie H Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I don't think Arbeloa is good enough to be first-choice right back though.i probably agree but would like to see arbeloa have a solid run at right back in a settled back four. his first couple of games for us he looked really attack-minded and hugged the touchline well.
Flight Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Absolutely disgraceful the way some so called reds are writing this lad off before he has kicked a ball for us. I won't be saying anything bad about him until Kaizer lets us all know whether he is any good or not.
