Guest JV Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Or we might be well stocked in the teenage midfielder department and so be able to spend that £5m on someone who can go straight in to the f***in' first teamLike Benayoun, oh wait.
Kahnee Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Like Benayoun, oh wait.Who scored goals this season and can play in a number of positions...
Guest Prongsy Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Who scored goals this season and can play in a number of positions... But is actually a player we need to replace with quality. Anyway, that 5m on top of money we already have is probably better spent elsewhere. Not at all fussed about Ramsey to be honest.

Haven't you heard? We need a squad of world class stars, twelvety per position, and more young guranteed prodigys than you can wave an offside flag at. If we don't have that, it's the Americans fault

I think we do, since Garcia has left we've missed someone that can create from nothing, Benayoun has done that only very rarely. The goals he's scored have either been in routs or against dross. Although, unlike sarcastic kahnee suggests, I do realise that we can't have a squad of world class players. Yossi is not and has never been good enough.
shanks59 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Who scored goals this season and can play in a number of positions... Scored goals : Most of which were scored against the weakest teams to visit Anfield in a long long time Number of positions : Yeah right, he hasn't got the discipline to stay wide .. Benayoun (to all but the rose tinted brigade (are you a founder member?)) isn't and never will be good enough for liverpool football club Edited June 5, 2008 by shanks59
Guest JV Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Disagree, Benayoun is a good squad player.Disagree. The blokes a waste of a squad place.

richwilks Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Disagree, Benayoun is a good squad player. Benayoun is a decent squad player. Just a shame Rafa feels the need to start him as often as he does!

The goals he's scored have either been in routs or against dross. Garcia wasn't known for doing that on a weekly basis as I recall. He's was just as likely to fluff it as create a piece of genius Although, unlike sarcastic kahnee suggests, I do realise that we can't have a squad of world class players. Guest Prongsy Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Yeah, because goals against the "dross" don't count as much as the goals against other teams. I despair. A hatrick against Havant and Waterloovile doesn't count as much as a winning goal against top teams as Garcia used to do, not when you're comparing players and their value to a team. Despair is right. Anyway, let's not clog this thread with s*** about Benayoun, he's not going anywhere.

RafaShanks Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Yossi is a good squad player to have. He'll be here next season. Rafa may move him on next summer though.
johngibo YPC Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Benny got a few big goals last season. The winner at Wigan springs to mind. And the first goal away at Reading. And god knows what would have happened if he hadn't have scored that hattrick against Havant! It was actually Babel who always seems to get the last goal in a 3 or 4 nil win (not that i want him sold either!!)He's a decent player doing a decent job
fyds Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Yossi is a good squad player to have. He'll be here next season. Rafa may move him on next summer though.basically, yes. He was brought in to offer us something of what we would lose with Garcia going and in some degree he's done that when called upon. Anyway, it was his first season among a very freshened up team so with them all being more in tune what was more than decent last year with a few tweaks and some time behind them could be nuch better again.
MFletcher Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Garcia did it much more often than Benayoun and on a bigger stage consistently. In the only game in the CL knockout rounds that Benayoun started, he produced a wonderful run and through ball to setup Torres to score away at Stamford Bridge. Garcia was starting every game, so naturally had more opportunities to do something of that nature. It annoys me when people cite the goals players scored against 'dross' - as though that somehow devalues the fact that they put the ball in the back of the net.
fyds Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 1st goal against Villa at home too.Hat trick v Besiktas as well.
Gomez Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 1st goal against Villa at home too. Didn't he put Torres through against the chavs in the CL? That kind of contribution shouldn't be overlooked.
psl Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Didn't he put Torres through against the chavs in the CL? That kind of contribution shouldn't be overlooked. Indeed he did, with a great run (as MFletcher has said). It shouldn't be overlooked, but frequently is. Benayoun is a good player and should be kept.
Hassony Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 It annoys me when people cite the goals players scored against 'dross' - as though that somehow devalues the fact that they put the ball in the back of the net. Its only used to criticise the likes of Benayoun and Cisse (when he scored in the early CL games), same with penalties and european/ fa cup goals (Kuyt), Its only used to fit a certain agenda!
