Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7421348.stm Personally, I really like the idea, still going to be difficult to push through because of the legal issues though. I do feel that our side is in danger of losing its identity. There doesnt appear to be any English players coming through the ranks we could well be fielding a side without a single English player.
Benzo-13 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I'd like us to keep the Scouse identity more than having more English players. Don't know whether Darby, Spearing or Puttrill would be good enough though.

Kvarme Ate My Food Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Our lads have come from all over the place. They talk dead funny, but they play dead great
CarraLegend Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) It's a f***ing horrendous idea which thankfully wont happen Edited May 27, 2008 by CarraLegend
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 It's a f***ing horrendous idea which thankfully wont happen Whats horrendus about it? And how is it any more horrendus than English teams like Liverpool and Arsenal fielding at best 4 English players between them?
Gunga Din Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Whats horrendus about it? And how is it any more horrendus than English teams like Liverpool and Arsenal fielding at best 4 English players between them? i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things
Murphman Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things 11 mongolians is alright, the manc can f*ck off.
Guest Scot Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things Exactly. Who gives a sh*t where they're from? Nothing to stop English lads going abroad to play, it's not a one-way system we have. Oh wait...
MFletcher Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things Is the correct answer.
Gooner Spy Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things You'd get screwed when the African Nations Cup is on. Edit: Wikipedia informs me that Mongolia is in Asia. So go on ahead. Edited May 27, 2008 by Gooner Spy
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 i couldnt give a f*** if we fielded 10 mongolians and a manc as long as we were winning things Id prefer to win things with a team that at least contains some homegrown/local talent rather than players we have just bought in.
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Exactly. Who gives a sh*t where they're from? Nothing to stop English lads going abroad to play, it's not a one-way system we have. Oh wait... Its not about that, its about the game and the teams having a bit of identity and some kind of link to the clubs fans. Theres something slightly wrong about the lack of English players in our top division compared to leagues around Europe.
CarraLegend Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Whats horrendus about it? Everything, I dont see why we should be restricted on what we do with our team and I couldnt give a f*** about English players either.
Guest Linton Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 11 mongolians is alright, the manc can f*ck off. DAMN YOU MONGORIANS!
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Everything, I dont see why we should be restricted on what we do with our team and I couldnt give a f*** about English players either. To preserve the integrity and the character of the league perhaps?
Guest Kaizer Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) You have my full support on this one Raisbeck, my guess is that if not something happens and the ongoing trend continues, a lot of people will see where you are coming from in around 10 years time. It would be fun to drag back such a thread then. Edited May 27, 2008 by Kaizer
CarraLegend Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 To preserve the integrity and the character of the league perhaps? What intergrity and character? British Alex Ferguson being a complete c*** to anyone who crosses him? English Neil Ruddock playing pass the f***ing pound? David Bentley refusing to play for England under 21s? Englands David Beckham making a show of himself in a world cup? West Ham and their English players rolling over for Man Utd and their English manager licking Man Utds a*** the day before the game? I really couldnt give a f*** about the "intergrity" and "character" to be honest.

It would be fun to drag back such a thread then. If for example, we dont sign Barry or Bentley this year then we have an under-par looking Carragher and Gerrard - thats it. There isnt any youth coming through, we could be fielding a fully-foreign 11. We moan about players not being good enouh for the shirt, not understanding about the passion needed to play for this club but at the same time scoff at the need to get English lads who understand that idea in the side.
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I really couldnt give a f*** about the "intergrity" and "character" to be honest. You dont give that impression.

Whats this "we" stuff? Does Peter Crouch understand the Liverpool way more than Torres or Mascherano? It doesnt look that way to me. Not all foreigners are lazy c***s who dont understand the club, you just have to sign the right ones.

CarraLegend Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 You dont give that impression. Thanks for ignoring my points. Says a lot really.
Guest Raisbeck Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Thanks for ignoring my points. Says a lot really. Well you are clearly twisting this into a foreigner vs english player debate - it isnt. Foreign players have been brilliant for the game but there are too f***ing many of them and its stifiling the growth of talent and creating squads of mercenaries while local talent end up having to leave for lesser clubs.
Jim D Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) We're one of the worst in the League worst than Chelsea! If this quota idea comes in, then now is the time to be blooding in young English talent into the first team. Kind of explains why we've been linked with Barry and Bentley in recent weeks, is the something Rafa has considered? Edited May 27, 2008 by Jim D
