Kahnee Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) A Manchester United fan has been charged with breaching a football banning order after he was spotted at the European Cup Final. Jay Barnes, 29, spent the match in a Russian police cell after being recognised as a banned fan.He was seen wandering through the crowd at the Luzhniki Stadium soaking up the atmosphere ahead of the big game against Chelsea on Wednesday night. He was one of around 40,000 fans from England, who had spent thousands of pounds on flights, accommodation and match tickets to be at the game. But he was seen by a football hooligan spotter from Greater Manchester Police, who recognised him as being banned from travelling abroad to watch football. The British officer, out in Moscow to help local police identify potential trouble makers, then told Russian Police.Barnes was approached and detained by Moscow police shortly before kick-off - and missed his team`s thrilling victory. He was held overnight before being deported back to the UK, and landed at Manchester Airport today, where he was arrested on the spot.Barnes, of Woodward Street, Ancoats, Manchester, has been charged with breaching a football banning order, and possessing an identification document with intent to deceive - believed to be a false passport. He is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates’ Court on June 5. Lock him up, throw away key, float cell out to sea on block of ice Edited May 23, 2008 by Kahnee

Kahnee Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Is that a full time job I wonder? More a hobby I'd have thought - something you'd do at weekends to get away from the family
R A Softlad Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Is that a full time job I wonder? He's one of a larger department based in Guildford.
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I used to spot football hooligans but it became too much about the politics and less about the love of spotting thugs.
Gooner Spy Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I used to spot football hooligans but it became too much about the politics and less about the love of spotting thugs. Imagine doing that job at Stamford Bridge or Upton Park! Easiest job in the world?
Murphman Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I'll never forget in Dortmund, spotters mingling, not looking for black listed hoolies just pinpointing the instigators of any trouble. A row broke out and 4 plain clothed police (?) surrounded the lad who threw the first punch blowing whistles and pointing with sticks. The heavy brigade promptly jumped on him.
