I myself really want him to stay but I just had to find out how many people still back Rafa after going out in the semis of the CL, finishing 4th again etc.

I am not totally disapointed with the season. I was actually happy with making the semis again. finishing 4th would maybe be a sore point but we're not exactly a million miles from the top plus he's found us our 20 goal a season striker and some. the more I think about the possible signing of Barry, the more I like it. I think it shows that he is planning for the future, to have a certain amount of home grown players who are of sa similar or maybe even better quality than th eones he is replaceing...

look at yer chelseas and arsenals etc who will have to pay way over the odds in a year or 2 when this 6 and 5 rule comes into effect....

anyway... it's very clear what i think, now lets see what you guys think.

Yep. Last thing this club needs is more upheaval. The playing side of things needs stability while all the s**** goes on around them.

I admit, I do have my doubts as to if he'll ever crack the premier league, I just think he's far to technical and tactical a coach sometimes for this league. BUT you never know :)

And right now, there is no one else I'd want to manage the club through all the off field crap! I hope he feels that it's worth seeing it through another year.

Can you name me a manager who you think is capable of winning us the title with the current level of investment?

Wasn't having a go at you, I know that you are a big supporter of Rafa, the longer we go without winning the title the more doubt I have (but I never thought we would be capable of winning the european cup either before Rafa came!), I am just intersted to know if anyone can think of other managers who will be able to challenge chelsea and united despite having a smaller budget.

I know he doesn't have the open cheque book that Chelsea and Manc Utd have, but he's not had it so bad. And I do think that we're still a bit further back at this point than we should be. Of course, I do realise that it's tough, cos Chelsea and Manc Utd aren't going to stand still and wait for us to catch up!

Sometimes I just think he over complicates things with tactics, that's my concern, nothing else. He's a terrific manager and a great man, who is sometimes way to clever for some of the players he has.

I really hope the form that we have been in since sticking to the same formation would have made him change a bit, and made him realise that Flat track bullies win league titles rather than tactics!.

When I look at teams like Valancia and PSG this season I realise that if we get the wrong choice of a manager than things can turn a lot worse!

Yes - but if we don't win the league next season I'm likely to change my mind on this subject

I'm not taking the piss here mate, this is a serious question.

Can you suggest a replacement who would be capable of winning the league given the current levels of investment compared to United and Chelsea?

there are plenty names of decent managers out there but unless they get the job, you'll never know.

but i think he's done enough to keep his job, the more pertinent question seems to me, should he be given an extension to his contract? i.e. Is he being told 'you've got one more season to mount a proper title challenge, Rafa' or 'We totally back your long term vision for this club and can see the progress you're making with the reserves/youth set ups and we're going to give you the time to see that come to fruition, here's a new 5 year deal'

One would hope it's the latter.

f*** knows what sort of 'yes man' Hicks would look to appoint if Rafa went.

I can see Bruce Arena wandering in, selling Torres to pay a loan and buying Clint Dempsey instead.

I think we are close to having a squad capable of winning the league right now - we lost it this year due to being conservative in matches and drawing when we should have won them - there is also an issue with our player's mentality when playing against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd - its my opinion that this is attributed to Rafa.

I can't suggest a replacement and its not up to me anyway. All I'm saying is that if we are sitting here this time next season with no title I won't be giving a firm YES to Rafa remaining as manager.

We took draws from the Emirates and Stamford Bridge despite being in relative control of the match. We deserved to beat Chelsea at Anfield as well (I must commend Rob Styles for that).

I don't think there's any problem with our mentality when facing Arsenal/Chelsea these days.

We can't seem to crack the United code though.

Of course.

We must lower our expectations because we're not getting the same level of players in.

Bet Mourinho will be there and the justification will be 'he won it with Porto with no money' - s***test reason ever.
