honourablegeorge Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Just read the David Prentice article in the Echo. Very true - that jersey carries a weight of history, and someone will be expected to fill it this summer, hopefully. I'm struggling to think of a candidate, though. Any realistic suggestions? I'd love Ribery, but as I said, "realistic suggestions".

honourablegeorge Posted May 2, 2008 Author Posted May 2, 2008 Ronnie Whelan said: Is Kaka realistic? Outside of a straight swap for Gerrard or Torres, probably not.

honourablegeorge Posted May 2, 2008 Author Posted May 2, 2008 David Bentley and Maxi Rodriguez are probably the two realistic candidates...... like both, but I dunno if they'd be enough.
goodrobotusses Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 (edited) As unpopular as it might be with some, I reckon it might get given to Kuyt - it was his number at Feyenoord, and was with the Dutch national side in the 2006 WC. With there being a new kit this summer, that tends to be when current players get to change their squad numbers. Edited May 2, 2008 by hisdumbwaiter
Poolfrog Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 It's only a bloody shirt number at the end of the day. Any player that is weighed down by a number on his back or, for that matter, plays better because of it, is precisely the sort of player we'd be better off without
Kahnee Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Given what wearing the shirt has done for Smicer and Kewell, give it to Riise You can't score own goals from the treatment room
Kahnee Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 (edited) Oh f*** off After stating Traore was the best LB at the club, and your laughable claims about Riise lately, any player you bang on about is clearly suited to doing nothing more than putting out the cones for trainingAnd they'd probably f*** that up too Edited May 2, 2008 by Kahnee
Cobs Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 don't agree with retiring jersey No's at all. When i was a kid all i wanted to do was play No.7 for Liverpool like my idol Kenny Dalglish. Granted it didn't get me anywhere but the point is it should serve as an inspiration. Anyone who sees it as a curse or carries too much weight/expectation should get another number or just feck off
Guest the Dude abides Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Maxi Rodriguez or Mati Fernandez, would be chuffed with either of them two. Few others that would probably be unrealistic and others that we've been linked with that aren't good enough.
