CaptainXabi Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Sorry, I had to use Gerro to get your attention Anyway, he's not bad playing in Fernando's hole the hole these days is he? Doesn't look as pretty as the likes of Kaka but he's becoming quite effective there and certainly playing with more guile. The pass to Torres to put him in against Cech on Tuesday was quality.
Maldini Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 You should be shot with the Rick Rollers for that headline.
Old red eyes Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 It's the position i prefer to see him playing in. He had an in and out game on Tuesday but was still instrumental in everything good we did. His pass to Torres would have been finished with ease normally. Plus his shot at the dept which Cech saved was a beauty.

D.Boon Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I think he would be better out right. But with the present squad he is the best player for the hole. Until we sign Kaka

goodrobotusses Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 (edited) I think Gerrard is largely playing well in that position because of the likes of Babel and in particular Torres. Whenever he'd played there in the past he'd looked lost and frustrated playing most of the game with his back to goal. Now with the pace we have going forward on the counter, defences have to drop off to compensate for the likes of Babel and Torres, this opens a big gap between the opposition's defence and midfield, which gives Gerrard the chance to surge forward in support. It's a fantastic sight. But if you put Gerrard in behind someone like Crouch or Kuyt, who primarily turn and face away from goal and offer no threat in behind, he wouldn't be anywhere near as effective because the opposition could keep compressed and compact between defence and midfield.
