Thinking specifically about his one about success being expensive but any that can have him hoist by his own petard would be great.

The more I think of that idiot's 'PR stunt' yesterday the more furious I become. Liverpool mugs and wheel out the children in their tops. He's taking every one of us for fools. The prick.

Knox mate, I was going to send him an e-mail a couple of months back where I detailed every contradiction/lie etc. with sources/quotes etc. etc.

Do you want me to fire that over to you and let you pick through it?

Right, I've cut it down to just the links/quotes etc. I didn't get round to dredging up quotes surrounding the stadium, so there's clearly another line for you there.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22420871/ [29 Dec 07], “They made up that we were going to fire him. They made up that I told him to shut up”

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-f...00252-20150506/ [23 Nov 07], “It is really time for Rafa to quit talking about new players and to coach the players we have”.

http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl.jsp...wnwords_400.wmv [comments can be heard at 10.21]:

Liverpool are “a great economic model. People are worried that I might take money away from the Rangers to go to Liverpool. It's just the reverse. Liverpool is going to pull off lots of extra money that if I choose I can use for the Rangers or Stars."

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-f...00252-20347645/, “in November, when it appeared we were in danger of not advancing in the Champions League, weren’t playing well in our Premier League matches, and Rafa and we were having communication issues over the January transfer window, George and I met with Jurgen Klinsmann to learn as much as we could about English and European football.”

“Rafa’s ability to coach in the Champions League should be unquestioned”

"You don't even have to win a championship every year to draw the fans. You just have to show you're really trying. This business has to do with fan affinity and brand devotion. It doesn't necessarily have to do with winning."

There's also this thread on RAWK. I haven't read through it all, but there might be one or two things you could pick up from it: http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index....opic=214358.120

Yep - as a PR stunt, it was on a par with Saddam Hussein beckoning that petrified British boy and patting him on the head.

“When I was in the leverage buy-out business we bought Weetabix and we leveraged it up to make our return. You could say that anyone who was eating Weetabix was paying for our purchase of Weetabix. It was just business. It is the same for Liverpool.”

This from the man who said there would be no debt on the club when he bought us and is now expecting us to believe him that if he buys us out 100% he will have no debt on the club in a short space of time.

"All of these teams have become businesses in the past 20 years," Hicks said. " This business has to do with fan affinity and brand devotion. It doesn't necessarily have to do with winning."

This from the man who is now claiming its all about winning things.

More fuel to the fire would be the fact that both his other teams are saddled with loads of debt whilst languishing near the bottom of their leagues. The hockey team always finished 3rd or 4th in a 4 division league - it was first when he took over. His baseball team has just lost the last 4 matches and is last but one I think.

The hockey team has done well under Hicks – playoffs most years and won its only Stanley cup in 1999.

The baseball team is doing its best to balance out the success of the ice hockey… and that’s about the only thing they are doing well at.

I only got back from my hols yesterday, missed most of the interview but caught the bit where Hicks was going on about the way he does his business, how he knows exactly what he's doing and that he's been using this module succesfuly for 35 years.

What year was it he went skint?

These facts about his other 'franchises' and the quotes Flight posted about 'brand devotion & not winning things' goes to show that Hicks is happy with sporting mediocrity as he believes he'll still get a return on his investment if we're 4th every year.

He makes more the more we win. He pays the bills with 4th place.

He may have a totally different reason for wanting Liverpool to be successful but still wants them to win everything.

Its also very difficult to compare the different sports with the different setups in leagues and competitions played. Plus minor little things like salary caps and not owning your stadium.

I’m not defending him – just pointing out that’s its difficult to compare.

Plus if Liverpool slumped and it forced out Gillette then he’d probably be happy with that. He’d still want success afterwards though. Just that we measure success in terms of progress, stability and trophies. He measures in cashflow and debt repayment.

Which is why he shouldn't be at the club.

I can't remember the last time I celebrated the club making a profit...

Part of the reason.

I don’t want him there because he doesn’t understand the game, Liverpool or the people. And he doesn’t care.

DALLAS — Forbes.com recently came out with their list of NHL franchise values and economic outlooks, and the Stars come in as the #5 most valuable franchise overall, trailing just Toronto, New York, Detroit and Montreal. According to the report, the Stars are worth approximately $254 million.

Despite this, Tom Hicks does not get any love from the writers at Forbes, who had this to say:

It is a good thing Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks is a billionaire. Otherwise, he might not survive the mess he has made of the Dallas franchise. The team, which owns 50% of American Airlines Center, is saddled with $200 million in debt (the team's holding company, Southwest Sports, defaulted on $135 million of debt four years ago), a high payroll, and an under-performing team that can't make it past the first round of the playoffs. The natives have clearly gotten restless, illustrated by sagging ticket sales and waning interest in the Dallas market for the Stars. In the face of this Hicks has actually increased the team's marketing staff to boost ticket sales. What he really needs is a better product.

Some of the fans replies tell us all we need to know about how much Hicks is interested in winning :

The Stars franchise will look and feel no differently than the Rangers franchise as long as an owner that doesn't care about winning is at the helm. It may be a 'valuable franchise', but as a fan...I'm not all that interested in Hicks ability to sell the franchise and make money. I want the owners of the teams for which I am a fan to be upset when their team does not win. I want them to care. Hicks clearly does not pay attention to the scores, he's focused on the bottom line. If we, as fans, are lucky than one of two things will happen. Hicks will sell or he will come to realize that the easiest way to 'keep butts in seats' is to win

I've been playing hockey since I was 5, and have lived in 3 NHL cities and 2 WHA cities before they were NHL. Had season tiks here for years, till the strike.

True hockey fans stay away when the owner is an insane, back-stabbing egotist who cares more about doing deals for his private equity funds/buddies than he does about building a sports franchise. We stay away because that's the only way that buffoons like Tom Hicks will ever get the message. He should have sold the franchise a few years back when he said he would.

Good to see others in the media call Hicks out ..

I'm oging to repeat the standout section of that, which gets a little lost :

This is what he is doing at the moment, taking on various PR companies in the UK to help him. I don't doubt they've been a big part of his strategy of backing Rafa and trying to sack Hicks, most probably aided by their people on this and similar forums.

If you've never read this, you should, outrageous that PwC, PKF, RBS and any other 'advisor' that cost LFC £11m in fees, obviously didn't -

written in 2002 when Hicks was Chairman of Hicks, Muse, Tate etc

Is Tom Hicks Going Broke?

it mentions the companies that went under (mentioned in previous posts) and his new found meglomania as a 'sports owner'
