MFletcher Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I thought he was excellent today. Some great long range and one touch passing, was breaking forward a lot and was getting his foot in as well. He seemed to have a lot more confidence about him today and he was a contender for MOTM. Very pleased.
Hassony Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 He was excellent, a lot more confident also reminds me a lot of Edu (at arsenal)
stressederic Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I think Lucas has been fine all season to be honest, been quite baffled by some of the stick he gets. He's come into a new league and a new team, played in some massive games and done well.
Guest GrandpaSimpson Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Thought he was very good today, surprised what people in the match thread were saying about him.

Swipe Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I haven't been impressed with him at all this season. So weak on the ball. But hoping he proves me wrong next season, with his first season under his belt.

MFletcher Posted April 13, 2008 Author Posted April 13, 2008 I think Lucas has done perfectly well this season as well. Some people are just too impatient to appreciate that he's a young man who has moved to a new continent to play for a new club in a completely different footballing culture. Not everyone can have the sort of immediate impact that Torres has had.
Swipe Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Don't remember him wasting too many balls today, and for once he actually didn't tire towards the end Never said he did. I mean he's literally weak when in possession. Too easy to push off the ball.
McBain Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Poor first. Ok second Still dont see it with him yet
Swipe Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Poor first. Ok second Still dont see it with him yet Me neither. But as i've said, hopefully he comes good next year. Needs to be a bit more aggressive
BG Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Didn't see this thread - just put my thoughts in MOTM thread. I like Lucas a lot as he does all the basics well or very well. For me, playing the system we have been, I think he and Masch are a better pair than Masch and Lucas in most games.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 He's very dynamic - always willing to burst forward and get ahead of the ball. I hope he develops hisgame because he has the potential to be an all-rounder.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 he does all the basics well or very well. I would disagree with that - I think the basics let him down. He has an ability to hit long passes, burst forward, tackle back but lets himself down with some poor passing.
goodrobotusses Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Very good game from Lucas, though Blackburn weren't as 'up-and-at-em' as you would expect, so he got more time on the ball today than he had done recently. Still, very promising first season given the aforementioned bedding in from a different football culture.
Mike S Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 he played quite well, important involvement in the goal. Also he lasted the 90 minutes much better than he did against Arsenal or Everton which is a good sign.
BG Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 you might want to edit that Yes, should have read that I think in most games Lucas and Mascherano are a better pair than Alonso and Mascherano.
BG Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I would disagree with that - I think the basics let him down. He has an ability to hit long passes, burst forward, tackle back but lets himself down with some poor passing. I think he also hits good short passes under pressure, quite often short passes that start attacks or change the attack by finding a man in space. I think he is seriously under-rated on here. Partly becuase he is compared all the time to Alonso (often because they are competing for place, albeit they play it differently) who IMO is rather over-rated (at least for the last two seasons) on here.
lfc003 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I'm not a fan of his, I really can see him succeeding in the premier league I'm also not sure what type of midfielder he is suppose to be?? He's spent the whole of the season running away from the ball or getting caught in possession..far too lightweight and slow for the premier league, He only looks decent when he's got 10yards of space to pick a pass. I really can't think of a game this season where he has made a big impact in. Lucas for me is just the wrong type of player for this league.

Very pleased. he was poor in the first half but got better in the second which seems to be a recurring theme with him. hopefully it means he's going to be more consistent with time and experience and be the second half player all the time.
Earl Hafler Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I think Lucas has been fine all season to be honest, been quite baffled by some of the stick he gets. He doesn't score 25 yarders or hit a dolzen 50 yard passes a game. Therefor he is s*** Hardly had a run in the side, completely different continent to acclimatise to etc I seriously think we could sell Alonso, use the money to buy the creative forward we're crying out for and not miss a step with Gerrard, Masch, Lucas, Plessis and another back-up player to choose from for the central midfield positions.
