Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 My Gooner mate, after Hleb was assaulted by Kuyt, texted me..."The ref's a scouser" I later replied... "So is Bendtner"
anfield11 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 for stopping his teammates goal-bound effort Irrelevant if he was offside, which he was.
Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Irrelevant if he was offside, which he was. But if he just stood still the goal would have stood. It's through his own selfishness in trying to poke it home that he became active and touched the ball, thus stopping it going over. So it's not that irrelevant.
Maldini Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 He's the first XI signing, he's going to be our first choice centre-half next year.
Dominus Maximus Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 If Carras hand touches the line here Bendtner is NOT offside...
anfield11 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 If Carras hand touches the line here Bendtner is NOT offside... LOL LOL, you think a linesman [who I believe flagged] can spot fingers?? Sami may be there, but Pepe isn't. And if he hadn't touched it and it had counted, it's just further proof that the not interfering with play rule is dumb....which it is regardless.
realtarragona Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 sami, too. Still offside if Carra is off the pitch.
Koogan Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 it's just further proof that the not interfering with play rule is dumb....which it is regardless. I agree, the rule is dumb. How come defenders are not ruled in the same way as strikers? I mean, a defender can be 40 yards away tieing his shoelaces and he's still 'active'. Isn't he?
MFletcher Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 sami, too. There's only one player between Bendtner and the goal, so he became active - thus offside - the second he touched the ball.
RP Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Is Carra invisible to everyone else? Bendtner was not offside.
MFletcher Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Is Carra invisible to everyone else? Bendtner was not offside. He's off the field of play.
Tyler Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 so if carra was off field of play getting attention for an injury would he be offside
Leo No.8 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Makes no difference. Of course it does. If he's off the field of play for whatever reason he's not counted. Otherwise players being treated for injuries on the sideline could mark someone onside, which would be completely ridiculous.
DazzlaJ Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Of course it does. If he's off the field of play for whatever reason he's not counted. Otherwise players being treated for injuries on the sideline could mark someone onside, which would be completely ridiculous. He is still active
psl Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 He was offside, but if he'd got out of the way then I believe the goal would have stood.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Never looked into the rule but my uncle always says players are not allowed leave the field of play unless permitted by the ref and therefore its against the rules to step off the field of play to maximise the offside rule - any statto heads here that can advise on that point ?
RP Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 If he had left the field of play with the referee's permission (e.g. to be treated for an injury) then of course he would not be active. But if stepping over the goal-line was a legit way of playing someone offside, do you not think players would use it as a regular tactic?? Anyway, Sami and Carra were definitely playing Bendner onside - no question about it.
RP Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 He was offside, but if he'd got out of the way then I believe the goal would have stood. He wasn't offside.

You tell us you've played at a decent level, but you don't appear to know the laws of the game.
Hassony Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Of course it does. If he's off the field of play for whatever reason he's not counted. Otherwise players being treated for injuries on the sideline could mark someone onside, which would be completely ridiculous. he was still active, an injured player is a different matter because he would need the ref to allow him back on the playing field
