would be be fair to say that Sami is an all time great, up there with the greatest defenders in the clubs history, in the company of Hansen, Lawrenson, Smith etc. For me he up tehre with the very besy, and has been easily our best defender this season. just watching the guy play is fantastic, he reads the game so well you very seldom see him caught out and having to go sliding in for last ditch tackles, he hardly ever gets booked. I dont think there is a centre half in England who reads the game as well as Sami.

True legend, great attitude as well, other players might have sulked if they had the captaincy of them but Sami just got on with it

Sadly there's no League medal in his collection yet - we'll have to fix that next year.

I agree with the sentiment, it took him a while to get up to speed this season & I was as vocal a critic as any - well not quite, not as the poster who suggested he f*** off. But happily I can admit when I'm wrong & he has been immense since then

He's been an amazing player for us. Still class.

Other teams fans seem to think he's been finished for 3 years now. Don't know hwere they get that from.

I think the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea stays with a lot of people despite it being common knowledge that Hyypia was not at all well.

He's in my top 5 LFC defenders ever. He is in my opinion also the best defender "the premiership" has had the fortune of seeing.

Imperious , class and hopefully he gets his testimonial. You just know that Skrtel always leaves the pitch having learned something new after playing with Hyypia.

The way I would sum up my respect for him is that I'd pay to go to his testimonial game - and I can't imaging me doing that for many players now

Must admit i was surprised at the length of contract we gave him last time. Now im desperate for him to sign another contract. Without any doubt Houlliers best signing (along with Didi for me, but Sami has the longer service). I really wish we could complete his club medal collection.

That's a good shout. I'd definitely drive up for that.

A first class servant with a superb attitude and a very, very good player.

Good touch, good in the air, good organiser and capable of scoring.

Will always remember him fondly and see him as "one of us"

However, on playing grounds, he can't be classed as a great. Close maybe but not quite.

Why not? a European cup medal, a uefa cup medal, 2 fa cups, 2 league cup

Maybe if he was from a more "sexy" nation people would have appreciated him more

Its another Pundits myth. It seems every CB now has to have to the speed to keep up with the faster centre forwards. Yet central defenders are scared witless of centre forwards with a bit of pace. The usual s***. Sami has been amazing for us and cost f*** all.

Sami has been great all season, this slow start people are talking about must have flown me bye.

Our best defender by far this season and a true legend.

Tremendous servant to the club but his extended stay in the back four this season has impacted negatively on our play in that we have had to sit so much deeper to cover his lack of pace. Like Carragher, practically peerless defending on his eighteen yard line but take Sami ten yards up the field and anyone with a modicum of pace will have him right off.

Definitely deserves another year though.

Scored a decent amont of goals for a CB too.

Legend

32 goals in 439 matches, compare that to Carra`s 4 goals in 514 matches.

No surprise there then, lots of things seem to. He was shocking when he first came in for Agger, absolutely shocking. I thought he was finished.
