Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Looking at Ronaldo & comparing what we expected from TLT makes me wonder back to the Juve QF in 05. Given that he's hardly gone from strength to strength, or even set a match alight, since was it a Rafa masterstroke or simply that he had no available personnel left? LeTallec went into that game & played - if not a blinder - very fecking well, crucially creating the goal that put us through. He was hardly seen again.
surf Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Sinama & TLT, how highly rated they were when they arrived
Guest Kaizer Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 (edited) He was quoted in a French newspaper a couple of weeks ago, and he said asking Rafa to be allowed to go on loan to get playing time was the biggest mistake he had ever made. I thought we had sold him, but it looks like he is still our player. Edited March 26, 2008 by Kaizer

Le Tallec: 18(8+10) matches - 2 goals Le Mans have played 30 matches so far in the league so it looks like he is getting a few games at least, if not many starts.
growler Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I wonder what would have happened had the two lads gone to the scum or a***? Or even if Rafa had been here when they arrived?
MFletcher Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 The worst thing we did with FSP and TLT was send them straight back on loan to Le Havre. They should have come straight into the squad and trained with the first team.
Frosty Jack Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I've said it before I still think he'd be worth giving another chance at melwood, considering.

Pongolle showed a few glimpses of potential but I can't recally Le Tallec doing much to be honest. I don't remember him being THAT good against Juve although I can't fault the determination or work ethic of anyone that night. His assist for Luis' goal was a fluke though surely and the ball was meant for Baros...I reckon Mellor's knock down against Olympiakos was aimed at Riise too but thank god it went to Gerrard instead

And his performance against Juventus looked better because by his standards (we'd become used to frustrating no end product, no effort performances) it was a nice change, and very positive. That night everyone played well. TLT was decent, but really nothing special.
Skillz Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 He siad in that interview a couple of weeks ago he signed a 5 year contract with an option for 1 year extension, which he obviously took.

Cunny Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Le Tallec has had several loan moves and has never been a regular starter or made an impact at any of the clubs. He's not good enough.

Sadly I took it that he's yet to take the one year option, if he signed in 2003 it would run till 09 but will do and we'll have to fork out even more cash. He won't get what we've been paying him as a sub in the French league.
mick Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 FFS not a thread on these two again and how LFC ruined them......and if they'd gone to Arsenal ? Mancs things would have been so different.... Senderos was supposedly wanted by all the big clubs in Europe (are't they all) and went to Arsenal.....he's 23 now and from what I've seen of him he looks nothing too special atall. Promising 16/17 year olds don't always livev up to their potential.....TLT was one of them. Lets move on.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 the original question hasn't been answered though - he played against Juve, certainly wasn't MOTM or anything, but that's about the last we saw of him. Was it a Rafa masterstroke, or was he essentially forced into it due to injuries etc. He certainly did enough in that game that if Rafa was considering him as a potential for the future, we'd have seen more of him since. He is finished here though

Atticus Finch Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I think the biggest problem was their lack of physical development which has become increasingly important in the english game. TLT never bulked up despite being tall and FSP never grew - so despite decent skills they get too easily knocked off the ball. However they weren't the first and won't be the last overhyped kids who never made it. Nii Lamptey anyone?
