MFletcher Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Carra's form this season has been pretty poor. He's been giving away penalties, making some poor decisions, wasting possession, getting caught out etc. I thought he was very poor indeed today. The question is whether this season is merely an extended "blip" in his otherwise excellent form since 2004 or evidence that his career is winding down and that he just doesn't have the legs anymore to be considered an automatic selection? This has been discussed briefly over a number of topics, so I thought it would be useful to bring it together into one topic.
suzyv Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) I agree about Jamie perhaps he spending to much time in his resteraunt. I think that we have been lucky that he has not had more pens given against him. He spends so much time moaning at the rest of th defence perhaps he does not realize how bad he has been playing this season. Edited March 24, 2008 by suzyv
AJ The Red Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Its quite simple with Carra great defender s**** footballer , his form has been poor all season and his lack of pace is worrying.
hideNseek Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Can see Agger and the Skirt being our fist choices next season.
muleskinner Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I can see us going after David Wheater too despite him signing a new deal or possibly Stephen Taylor.
mickdundee Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 nailed on hes gonna give a penalty away next sunday
Coyler Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 The references in a number of articles recently to his despising playing at right back look ridiculous now, especially if they are leaked.
Guest Kaizer Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I have never seen a game of fotball where the CB's allowed the attacking team to get a player in behind them inside box with only the keeper to beat as many times as I did yesterday. It was comical defendig at best. To leave Sami out of the team yesterday was a key decision that Rafa got wrong, and we lost the game because of it. I have said it for a while now that Carra has been carried by Sami this season, but that said, Skrtel does not fill me with any confidense at all.

Another reaason why Hyypia should have been given a 3 year contract.

Leaving Sami out is not the reason we got beat, Man Utd are a better team than us, they were getting on top even before Masch got sent off, after he did it was a no contest. Skrtel has been top class since he joined us, a lot of potential. remember he has only played about 10 games in the league.
Chili Palmer Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Ditto. Another reaason why Hyypia should have been given a 3 year contract. he will getno more than a one year deal and rightly so, maybe a coaching role after that?
Flight Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Skrtel is getting too much stick for yesterday. The only thing he did 'wrong' was not jump for the ball for the goal; thing is he almost certainly got a shout from Pepe for it, so he left it. Pepe had a stinker, not Skrtel.
Guest Kaizer Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Skrtel has not been top notch at all, he has been at fault for his share of goals already, he struggle to cover his zone properly and his areal ability can be questioned. He does not command the box at all on set pieces and crosses. He has got pace, he looks good on the ball and his tackling look good, the problem is that there is an awful lot more thats needed to be a great CB, Skrtel has a long way to go before he is there ufortunatly.
Gunga Din Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Skrtel needs time to settle, and i'd suggest a reason for Carra's dip in form might have a lot more to do with the performances of our full backs this season, causing our centre backs to try and cover their short comings. the performances of Arbeloa, Riise, Aurelio and even Finnan have been very poor at times, and have left us badly exposed at the back

scoose Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 by the same reasoning Arbeloa and Finnan might have been worried about Carras poor form and have been caught in two minds... I agree, I have said on another thread that earlier in the season people were blaming hyypia for carras bad form now they blame the full backs. Carra is playing poorly and while he wasnt the only one yesterday i think over the season he has not been up to scratch
Gunga Din Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 by the same reasoning Arbeloa and Finnan might have been worried about Carras poor form and have been caught in two minds... yes, apart for the fact thats it pretty obvious to anyone watching the game that the bulk of the problems are coming from the full back positions
yellow jumper Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 thought aurelio was very good yesterday. the rest of the defence, goalkeeper included were poor.
FC Showster Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Skrtel needs time to settle, and i'd suggest a reason for Carra's dip in form might have a lot more to do with the performances of our full backs this season, causing our centre backs to try and cover their short comings. the performances of Arbeloa, Riise, Aurelio and even Finnan have been very poor at times, and have left us badly exposed at the back By the same token, when our centre backs are getting caught out then Reina tries to cover for them and ends up getting criticised for his performances. For the 1st goal yesterday you can point the finger at Pepe but you can also throw blame at Carra, Aurelio, and Gerrard for events in the build up. 2nd goal Xabi lets Ronaldo run off him and Skrtel is standing wrestling with Tevez and Pepe tries to cover for them
MFletcher Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) People will look to apportion Carra's poor form onto someone else. Whether it's Sami because he has no pace, the full backs for not being good enough, the keeper for having a 'mare etc. He panics when he receives the ball now, even when he has a bit of time to pick a pass he'll still put his foot through it. Guest efcrmagic Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 nailed on hes gonna give a penalty away next sunday Nah, you're good there, he could knee cap Yakubu in the box and we'd get nothing, you're fine.
New York Red Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 He's declined massively from his form of 2005. He always survived on massive effort, and his body just can't respond the way it used to. I wish he would shut up too.
