In the cold light of day...

I'm as gutted as every Liverpool fan, but a defeat against Manchester United is become the norm rather than the exception these days. Rafa has definately met his nemesis.

In reflection they deserved to win, but not by the margin they did.

Like other teams we never seem to be able to play at Old Trafford on a level playing field. Ferguson called for protection against Ronaldo - where was the protection against Torres ?

The two players I love and trust implicitly let me down today, Carra and Stevie. Both had quiet games and did not influence the game as they normally do. In fact the whole defence looked shaky today.

We, or rather Reina handed them the first two goals with terrible judgement of crosses. But on the other hand Reina saved us from an even worse hammering. Before the second goal went in we were still in with a shout of a point, but once it did go in that was that. If we could have retired there and then, we would have. The third goal was just a statistic.

On the whole, we knew the league was out of reach in January, we know we are still several players short of making a serious challenge, and today only emphasised this. United brought on two match winners, we brought on Benayoun and Riise :(

I actually don't feel as bad as I thought I would, maybe because I am so used to getting nothing against the Mancs.

However, just once I would like to play them on a level playing field, just once I would like the rub of green and the bounce of the ball and more importantly the refs decisions to go our way.

Whilst writing this, I haven't a clue how the Chelsea game is going, but if Arsenal get beat then today is the day the Mancs won the league.

I am so annoyed at Bennett and Mascherano though. Bennett for being an absolute c*** of a human being and Mascherano for not being smart enough to keep schtum.

It's like banging your head against a brick wall. If you do it for long enough, it stops hurting. I'm almost starting to feel like that about losing to those b******s.

All the debate about the sending off masks the real issues.

We were already 1-0 down, we were playing s****, we looked like a bag of nerves and we seem to have a fragile mentality in games against the mancs.

Our captain was nowhere to be seen again in a game against the mancs. Where was he during the Torres/Mascherano farce? Although he did improve a bit second half.

Our defending of set pieces was awful again and 3-0 actually flatters us.

Is Carra just having a poor season or is he finished?

i'm going to drink and smoke myself into oblivion tonight.

We just roll over and die for them, lesser teams this season have gone to Old Trafford and taken the game to the Mancs, shown some fight and spirit. We don't, we haven't done for a few years, for some reason we don't have the right mentality when going into the game.

Yet idiots on here will have a go at Everton for just gifting the mancs 3 points each game and we are just as guilty, if not more so.

I wish I could join you, self destruction appears the only way out tonight :(

Yes, Carra is done.

Time to assume the Sami role.

Horrible, but it really is starting to look like it.

Wonder if Agger and Skyrtal will start to take over next season

To be fair we do give the Mancs more of a game at Anfield, it is just at Old Trafford we've hit a mental block big time. Talking about Carra, can we judge on this game alone that he can no longer be first choice centre back when Agger returns?

I'd rather keep Sami for the Sami role.

didn' think carra was any worse than skrtel. they both struggled with rooney's movement.

We don't get any favours at Old Trafford but if anything is ''unlevel'' its as much our mentality as the softness of the referee

Having said that I do believe that Ferguson has a poisonous influence in the game

carra has played an awful lot of football in last three years

i think a break would do him good, his legs aren't gone just seems to be poor concentration and decision making

i also think we really underestimated sami's role in our defence and his ability to organise things off the ball

today was one of those things. would have been worse if it was first leg in europe.

babel had beating of brown but we never got him the ball

we had better of it for first fifteen then they came into it and it was even enough until the goal and sending off changed things

we looked nervy - hicks may have been on to something last year

True, but i'm talking more about Carra's form over the who season.

Looks like there's a mistake in him when he faces the better teams.

The truth is we've out played Man Utd several times in the last few seasons and still lost, today we were 2nd best. But your never going to play a side of the quality of Man Utd and every time be the better team some days they're simply going to be better than you and that was the case today, if we'd got what we deserved in previous seasons it wouldn't hurt so much, but at the moment, they get the luck when we outplay them and when they outplay us they get a bit of luck too.

Rooney gave Carragher a tough time and i do think next season he has to be rested more and take the Sami role, there are certain games where you need his attributes but when its more open his lack of pace is a problem.

You can argue that we're still miles away from Utd but this is the first game for a while against them where we were 2nd best so im not sure i buy that. We still need more quality going forward and defensively we need more pace but you can't play well every week, and against another top team sometimes they just play better than you.

The key is in these big games when we are the better side which has happened regularly the last few seasons you need to make that count and get the 3 points which we haven't done.

ManU - Loss

Everton - Win

Arsenal - Draw

Arsenal - Loss

Arsenal - Win

That's how I think it'll all pan out and we'll be in a great position if it does re 4th place and the CL. Plus it's realistic.

Torres to have scan on ribs and ankle from .tv

b******s

Rafa needs to agree with Spain that it's in the best interest of the player to stay behind for treatment.

I posted those results on here a week ago and stand by them. It's realistic and achievable and places us in a great position.

If you look at the first half again, you'll most probably see him in or around the mid-circle, just walking around. He was terrible first half and I blame him for the first goal where he didn't bother to meet a pass and let Brown start the attack which ended in 1-0. See that incident again, and you'll be as p*ssed as I am with him right now.

£100 says you get at least one of them wrong.

Very likely I'll get it wrong but i was just trying to point out that it's not all doom and gloom after today
