Tis a ridiculous idea. Why not go the full NFL hog and get cheerleaders, ad breaks every two minutes etc.

Plus what about the season ticket/fancard holders? Do they get free travel to the venue?

I honestly don't see who this benefits apart from those who may not get the chance to see their team in the flesh. Admirable sentiment but their wishes would then be of more paramount importance than any club's objections or problems of travelling potentially halfway around the world - a dangerous precedent to set IMO.

As usual, it's all about more money at the expense of a proper spectacle - a rare sight at the match these days....

It's one extra fixture a season. There is no home team or away team just two teams. I'd imagine the tickets sold wouldn't require a fancard. ST holders would still get their 19 games.

Live from Azerbaijan, it's Middlesbrough v Birmngham City!

I can imagine the crowds.

Boro have big support in Azerbaijan it seems

It is understood the additional fixtures could be determined by a draw but that the top-five teams could be seeded to avoid playing each other.

Points from those extra games would count towards the final league table.

Well, that doesn't undermine the principle of the league being decided by everyone playing the same fixtures, home and away, does it?

Imagine United getting Derby and we getting Everton, how is that fair?

If this stupid idea ever will become reality it should be played like this 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 17-18, 19-20 etc.

I presume the matches are going to be played at the same date, like a bonus match in the middle of the season or something.

The cities of the world would certainly be fighting over the rights to hold those two.

To be honest, I dont think the city`s around the world would fight it out for any of the games not involving us, the mancs or Arsenal, Chelsea might be able to attract a decent crowd but not much more.

Would I attend to a match between Man City - Newcastle in my city if the tickets was not really cheap or free?

Probably not.

But does the conditions of the ST state that they get nineteen league games a season or does it say all league games?

If not, do they get priority on the tickets sold? Or is their support effectively told, "You're not needed for this game thanks"

Indeed. This is a terrible idea. It's getting harder and harder to care about the game.

indeed - this kind of thing could be the death-knell for real fans. Not that the authoroties care.

And when football has a recession? They'll be begging for us to come back. The idiots really believe that this expansion - in every sense - can continue ad infinitum

Well there some dangerous c**** involved now who are starting to see the money to be creamed off the top, projected sales growth figures, individual rights and will whore the game into meaningless entertainment if they are not stopped, if they can be.

I think competing for and winning things has no become less important than the money to be gained whilst trying (or appearing to try) to do so.
