Murphman Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 and for all those who died. RIP A day to put rivalry to one side. A terrible tragedy may they rest in peace.
Huyton_Red Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I was thinking about this last night, I remember being a 10/11 year old singing that awful runway song with my mates at the Utd-Liverpool games in 1985. That was only 27 years after the actual disaster happened and it turned my mind to Hillsborough. It is the 20th anniversary next year, can you imagine the whole of old trafford singing a hillsborough song in SEVEN years and how awful that would feel. It is to the eternal shame of Liverpool and its fans that song and how many of us sang it and the fact that 10 year olds like me where taught it and sang it laughing like idiots, I for one am deeply ashamed I ever sang it and I will never, ever sing it or stand next to anyone who sings it again
The Hitman Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Rest In Peace all that died. My old man's fella said Duncan Edwards was the finest player he'd ever seen, and he saw Dixie,Nofthouse,Matthews and Best.
Tones Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Watched a programme about Harry Gregg returning to Munich last night. Surprised me how very little i knew about the tragedy. enjoyable but very sad programme. RIP
Snookie Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 RIP. My dad saw that team and he still speaks about them with awe. The piece about the tragedy on Sportsweek at the weekend was very moving.
charlie clown Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) Growing up half way between Liverpool and Manchester I have always had a strong awareness of the rivalry and shared community between the two cities - and this is one of those things that should be remembered jointly with sadness. RIP. Edited February 5, 2008 by charlie clown
Duncan Disorderly Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 To think that Busby and those boys could have achieved European glory a full ten years before they actually did; and nine years before Celtic; is incredible. It was indeed a very sad loss for English football, and if plaudits are to be given credit; the loss of Duncan Edwards seems like a sad loss for world football. My Da (RIP) was a total Manchester United (his moniker for them, never Man U or owt like that) fanatic, and for his sake as well as to the memory of footballers and football from a bygone, golden age, I put my differences with their lot aside on the anniversary of a terrible tragedy. My Da was apparently a corker of a player himself when he was a lad, so he'll be up there having a kick about with all of them, including our (Norn Iron) Geordie.
Ostrich Man Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 Tomorrow.wont be here tomorrow, didnt think id get the chance to pop on tonight. wanted to pay my respects. Knew you would too RP.
Gary Wolf Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 RIP All rivalry stands aside in the face of this.
Rimbeux Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 There are just so many haunting human stories around this tragedy. An awful awful shame. For the victims and their families, RIP
SkippyjonJones Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 terrible thing to happen. 50 years... helll... rip
Swipe Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 RIP Would love to see some footage of Duncan Edwards. Reading an interview with Bobby Charlton the other day, and he said Edwards was the only player that ever made him feel inferior.
Armin_Tamzarian Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 RIP to those that perished and best wishes to the bereaved. It will be tough for those few who survive, hope their fallen comrades are accorded the respect they deserve. Phil Sraton has written a superb article on the disaster and the relations between LFC and MUFC. I won't paste it onto a tribute thread but it's well worth a look.
D.Boon Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Just reading that the plane was making a god awful noise the 2 times it had failed to take off previously. Why try a third time? A terrible waste. RIP
