Swipe Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 There's no "summer transfer speculation" page yet, so have to start this in a new topic! One of the rags today - the People i think - is claiming that Michael Johnson and Crouch will be involved in a swap deal in the summer. They say it was all ready to go through once the january window opening, but MJ got injured and scuppered the deal. However, he's set his heart on moving to us and with Sven fancying Crouch it should go through at end of season. Anyone believe this? i've seen him a few times, and he looks good. But where would we play him? We defo need some creative midfielders, thats for sure.
allawee Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I will save every penny and spend it on a striker along side Torres. In my book Eto should be our number 1 target
Sion Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Would be a great deal for us. Which is why city would probably want say Crouch + £10m.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 We have a squad now, we have plenty of youngsters. We're at a point where we need to spend all - or a significant sum of - our cash on one impact player each season. We don't need 3 6-7m players anymore, 1 at 20m is better
Swipe Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Suppose it depends how much money we have. But if MJ is wanted by Rafa, then a swap with crouch where little money has to change hands is maybe ideal. I agree we need to be Torres-level players if we can, but the general feeling is Johnson will go on to be very, very good. If we don't sign him, i'd be surprised if another big four club didn't.

I agree a striker should be a priority and Eto would be immense. But I think we have more problems than that, such as left wing.
Sion Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 but the general feeling is Johnson will go on to be very, very good. He's already very good IMO and only 19. City have been abject in midfield whilst he's been out. Future England star.If we have a chance to get him we should jump at it.

Future England star.If we have a chance to get him we should jump at it. I agree. Making more mature, top class, finished-article type signings a priority doesn't mean we shouldn't reject chances to sign very good young players. Who would not need time to settle. Plus, i reckon Rafa (or a new manager if it happened) will get rid of quite a few players in summer. Not all of their replacements can be £20m plus. Good deal i think (if there's any truth in it)
MFletcher Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I think Johnson is going to be a superb player. I'd be very pleased with such a deal.
Alonso Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Well if Xabi is off in the summer then we'll need a CM to replace him.
magneto Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Time to bring the likes of Jay Spearing, Adam Hammill and Emiliano insua into the fray ...we need to blood the youngsters in before they turn into the Richie Partridge reincarnates we're all dreading
Swipe Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Wikipedia says he's "reportedly set to leave Man City in the summer for Liverpool FC". It's a goer then Is he just a central midfielder though, or has he played anywhere else?

jfogarty Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I'd rather see Guthrie get a chance but Johnson is a good prospect.

He's burst through and finished brilliantly to give City a 1-0 win twice this season already.
Guest sniffer Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Ideal replacement for Alonso. Is Alonso injured at the moment?

Dan Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Sven said there was no way they'd sell him. City fans i know rate him as their most important player. Classy player and if Alonso is off then it would make sense.
Mike Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 please, no more average squad players. we need match winners, and if rafa is staying, he needs to f***ing play them.

Classy player and if Alonso is off then it would make sense. If he wants to come to Liverpool he'll go. That's the way football works now. Plus, Sven wants Crouch so a swap could soften the blow of losing MJ

Mike Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Don't think Johnson is good? yeah he is. im making a general point about our transfer policy.
McBain Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Would you describe your point as 'sign big names'? Agree by the way
