After another season of premier league failure, it begs the question will gerrard hang around at liverpool, contracts are not worth the paper they are written on,he looks as if he has lost patience with the manager and some of the dross he has to play with.

He loves the club & he's not stupid, he knows Rafa wont be around for much longer.

its often quoted that SG's life ambition is to get a "well done" from Rafa (subbed for played with too much passion FFS) even though all his successes have been Gerrard inspired, I'm sure that a new manager might just appreciate what a gem of a footballer he is

Considering he was abandoning his position all the time in the derby - and his replzcement subsequently won the penalty that Kuyt converted to win the game - I'd say that was an excellent substitution.

If Rafa listened to people like you we'd be relegated.

A "gem" he may be. It's a shame he's incapable of playing with any evidence of caring recently. Club captain my a***.

Try 15 goals so far this season

How many has he scored from open play from his "best position"? This is one of the reasons often given for not sticking him on the wing. It totals about two in the league, the rest have come from set pieces.

He could do just as well on the wing - and he should be played there from now on.

Rafa has given him plenty of big raps this season in his after match summations. We don't know if he has privately said "well done Stevie" but if that is really required to keep Stevie motivated well no wonder we are struggling.

To suggest Rafa doesnt appreciate Stevie tells me you aint listening. In fact this is a bulls*** thread that should be closed.

I never understand how people can ever muster the words that gerrard doesnt care for the club. Unless you have just migrated to this planet from cuckoo land may i remind you that a certain Mr. Gerrard:

is a player who has the ability to play with any team on the planet.

chose and decided to stay with his boy-hood club, which means that he chose the club over his personal ambitions, which may be more silverware, fame or lucrative contracts.

Simply For this choice alone, i ll always have the utmost respect for Stevie G.

why not rule out goals scored with his right foot too?

you said he doesn't care, you're talking schite.

Of course I recognise that and I fully respect it but, as club captain, he should be doing a hell of a bit more to encourage the players around him. I'm not talking about scoring stoppage time goals all the time, I'm talking about the basic requirements of being a captain - inspiring the team with your words, leading by example, knowing when to praise a player for their contribution, when to berate them etc. He's spent a lot of this season throwing his arms up in the air, being annoyed and generally looking disinterested. eg. Babel miscontrols a pass from him and he throws his arms in the arm and trots back towards the centre circle whilst Babel is going at full throttle to try and win the ball back. Or when he volleyed a shot towards the corner flag and turned away to hide behind his shirt - not realising the ball was actually in play. There are plenty of instances like that this season.

Of course he cares. Do you think he's showing it at the minute though? He's looked completely disinterested at times this season.

or maybe his form hasn't been perfect throughout? He clearly gives a schit, if we had 11 like him on the pitch we wouldn't be in this mess. Carragher's form has been in and out this season too - does he give a schit?

Let me explain:

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Stevie loves the club. You only have to look at his delight in Istanbul and Cardiff whenever we won. No-one can question that he's desperate for us to do well.

What I am questioning is his recent attitude, which suggests that he's not overly fussed what happens this season and is going through the motions. You may well argue that if the manager is going he, and the other players, aren't going to motivated. We still have a hell of a lot to play for this season and, as the local club captain, he should be putting more in to trying to change around our recent form. I don't question that he cares - I'm suggesting that he has played without any real evidence of caring in the past month or so. He seems to be accepting mediocrity without so much as a word. Roy Keane would have torn some of those players a new a******.

Good personal form is only a small part of being the captain on the pitch.

And Roy Keane wouldn't have smacked a 30 yarder into the bottom corner in the last minute of the FA Cup Final

Steven Gerrard is not Roy Keane and captaincy is not just about shouting at team mates

feck only knows where our season would be without Gerrard and Torres.

I don't think there is an arguement that Stevie doesn't care, he clearly does.

The problem is that he has an almost hypnotizing effect on the team. When he plays well the team do, when he doesn't fancy it neither do the team.

Look at last night, in the first half he was virtually playing as a third centre half, as a result the whole team sat back causing a massive gulf between the midfield and forwards. We looked toothless and void of ideas apart from a long hopeful ball.

In the second half he pushed much further forward and the team started putting decent moves together.

IMO Rafa needs to take SG to one side and between them pull this team out of the s**** they have got themselves in.

Did I question his ability as a player? I questioned his ability as a captain.

There is a big difference between the two.

He certainly played like he cared last night. It put him in a very small minority.

weird, i thought he was coasting a bit last night.

Thought he was one of the few (i.e. three) who injected any energy or pace into our game - or at least tried to.

and it's not about shouting

It's about encouragement, leading by example whether you're playing well or not, not turning away and throwing your arms in the air when a young player misplaces a pass.

The captaincy is not dependent on ability.
