allawee Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Despite all the punters insisting that Gerrard should play in centre midfield, I think he should be moved to play on the right with Alonso and Mascherano in the middle. He playd his best football and scored most goals when he played there? anyone disagrees?
Guest JV Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Not this again. Yes he should be on the right. Rafa will play him on the left before he moves him to the right as he did tonight. End of story/thread.
alias75 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 This is the biggest mystery to me this season, Rafa is so single minded but on this matter it looks like Stevie's getting his way. I dont want to knock Gerrard cos hes obviously one of the few world class players we have, but i think its time to get him away from the middle for 3 reasons. 1. Hes not a great central midfield player in terms of dictating the play and controlling the tempo2. As a team we're much stronger with Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso in the team3. I actually think Gerrard is a more effective player playing on the right with license to roam.
Ed the Wool Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 He needs to start being a captain and not a sulky c*** as well. It'll never happen. Not fit to lace Hughes, Thompson, Dalglish's boots.
Guest RedLegend Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Moving players around is akin to shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic IMO. There is a deep malaise within the playing and management staff at the club that won't be solved by moving one or two players into different positions.

Think thats true but i think we still have enough players that care and will play for Rafa but it means him picking them and sticking with them most weeks. I think the Spanish boys will play for him and Mascherano always is committed, Stevie may sulk a bit but you can't fault his effort the same for Carragher. So i think we have a strong core of players that will always give 100% but we need to play them all the time when fit.

Hassony Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Been saying that for a while. Who plays on the left though?give babel a run of 6 games, otherwise it should be riise
allawee Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Agree, I think Babel should be given a run in the team. And definitely time to ditch Kewel
Guest Snorky Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 give babel a run of 6 games, otherwise it should be riise Babel has only played one f***ing full game in the whole season, WTF is the point in that ? If he's so unfit why is he given a shirt in the first place ?
CaptainXabi Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 give babel a run of 6 games, otherwise it should be riiseI agree. Babel on the left, Gerrard on the right. Tell the fullbacks to overlap their face off. Buy real overlapping fullbacks in the summer.
Ethan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Gerrard taking another hammering tonight eh? Gerrard is better in the centre but needs a free role - if we are going to insist in using Kuyt as an extra midfielder I'd rather bench Dirk and play Gerrard off Torres and Xabi and Mascher in the centre

He's had an excellent season.
Ethan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 No hammering at all. He's had an excellent season. Agreed - playing in the Centre of midfield.
Hassony Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Agreed - playing in the Centre of midfield. its about whats best for the team, not whats best for gerrard
Ethan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 its about whats best for the team, not whats best for gerrard I don't get your logic mate.. A brilliantly performing Stevie in the centre where he has excelled all season or stick him out on the right where he doesn't make as much of an impact. It gets tiresome that Stevie's position is questioned when we have a bad result - maybe look at Finnan and Carra's positioning who were at fault for us conceeding a penalty tonight. For me Stevie is a box to box central midfielder and thats what is best for the team, he is wasted on the right.
psl Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I'd put Stevie on the right and Mascherano and Lucas in the middle on Saturday.

He has had many a great game out day. It's not like he is being asked to hug the touchline. To me it adds better balance to the team. It may not a popular but I see Stevie as a great player but actually a great centre midfielder. His brillance is in his speed of thought & ability to cut teams open (and his shooting etc.). I don't see that he can currently completely dominate a game and pull the strings like I would look for in a world class centre midfielder. I prefer to see him out on the right with two of Alonso, Lucas & Masch in the centre. Don't get me wrong. It is by no means the reason for our poor form. Just wanted to debate the specific point.
Stevie H Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 he's not a threat from centre mid. definitely needs to play higher up. mascherano, alonso, gerrard, benayoun, babel, torres should be the front six.
Ethan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I'd put Stevie on the right and Mascherano and Lucas in the middle on Saturday. Against Funderland? Thats crazy.
