Guest Snorky Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 ...he is just going through the motions at the moment. Total lack of commitment today.
magneto Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 should have been sold a year ago. He is not even premier league standard anymore.
Sion Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Mid way through the first half summed him up for me. We lost the ball in an attack, they countered and passed it to their right, where was johnny? right centre mid. He then trots over to the left and gets beat. I went absolutely crazy.
Spike Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Both full backs were pretty shocking today. Stuck like a pair of c**** in their own half for the best part of the first 45.
Guest saltysam Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 He was gash but he wasn't the worst offender out there today.
MFletcher Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 During the incident where Itandje flapped at the ball twice before they shot over the bar at the Kop end, Riise made absolutely no attempt to try and win a header that would have cleared the ball. Elisha claimed we were signing a left back from Atletico, but that was about a fortnight ago now. One assumes that if that deal goes ahead, Riise will be off and he knows it.

Can't see any players in or out apart from Momo. We're stuck with the useless fecker till the summer. His s****ness makes my blood boil.
Ben 23 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 He s***out of a few 50:50s as well... I thought he'd got better at that. Obviously Bouma/Mellberg knocking him over last week has scared him again.
mathewbet1 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Stop picking on him, if he wernt ginger, he would not get half as much abuse. Feck it . Feck off you ginger shi te bas tard.
Rex Ham Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 f*** that. It's his gingerness that's keeping him alive. If it wasn't for the fact that people felt a little bit sorry for him, being ginger, then he'd have been stoned to death by now.
Bootle Buck Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I can't believe it every time I see his name on the teamsheet. He has been utter dross now for 2 seasons and now that he doesn't even score the odd 30 yarder it sinks in even harder how bad he is. I can't believe Rafa persists with him tbh. I would leave him in the ressies for a few months then sell him. The lad just goes through the motions. He does his best to avoid tackling and just seems to trot around without any urgency. As for his shooting ................ this year it has been abysmal.

Hector McDougal Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Antonio Lopez as far as I remember. Doubt that it will happen now.
Anfield Fox Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 (edited) Question to all the Riise haters. Do you think he WAS a very good player, especially under Ged and up until we won the European Cup? If so why do you think he has lost the plot? Players get worse with age, it's normal. However he should be at the peak of his game at 27. I used to think he was one of the best left backs in the league. Could defend. Great going forward. Scored lots of goals. Amazing free kicks. Never the best crosser but not bad either. Where has it gone wrong? You don't turn s*** over night and it's not like he's been injury plagued or had problems off the pitch that we know about. Dee Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 as the guy behind me in the kop said - "F*** off Red Head"

He used to run all day, all season, it was his best attribute. It no longer goes that way.

Also, if he moves on (don't think he will), will his decline continue? Or would will he eventuelly end up the "Norwegian Roberto Carlos"? Edited January 28, 2008 by Joe Wilson

Or would will he eventuelly end up the "Norwegian Roberto Carlos"? he's been superceded by three left-backs in the league who actually play like robert o'carlos. evra, clichy and cole are all pacey, attacking fullbacks who make riise look utterly pedestrian by comparison.

Guest Kaizer Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I see that people are finding excuses for Finnan`s poor performances this season in the fact he has not had a consistent partner in front of him and that he has not played consistently enough in the team with the competition from Arbeloa. It would be nice if they used a few of the same excuses for the player on the other side, he has had it like that for a couple of seasons now and on top of that changing positions between fullback and midfield himself.

All true, the three you mention are all better full backs. Still, I think he's gone from good/excellent, to average, to s***. Can't puzzle out the reason why, though. A move might be the best for all parties. Edited January 28, 2008 by Joe Wilson

Are they, where? I thought people are wondering whether age and niggling injuries are catching up with him. Looks a shadow of his old consistent self who's played behind all manner and kept out two incomings
