Lark Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 What did you make of the kop today.? i see the anti hicks song started up when we went 2-1 down. Boos and chants of liverpool started up in an attempt to drown it out too. was the chant today really about hicks or just because we were losing? several more attempts were made in the second half with the same result. was these chants really about hicks or attempt to create an atmosphere. Is there any point in these anti hicks chants? Is it really a sign that booing and chanting liverpool songs at the match in favour of anti hicks songs is a sign that our fans have no fight? acceptance that we are cannon fodder? Or do you think that the kopites were expressing their belief that the songs had little to do with hicks today or a desire to forget what they cant control and trying to get back to just simply supporting our team? i dont recall ever seeing the kop and a section of it quite so divided to the point were we are booing each other.

Guest Snorky Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 There was definately something happening, even when we were winning. To me it looked like groups of fans were purposely drowning out what the RTK were singing, although I could be wrong. But couldn't understand why large groups of fans were turning their backs to the pitch and looking towards the RTK crew and waiting for them to start singing and then they would sing something else.
Lark Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 do you really believe that jimmy? do you really believe the majority on the kop have been swayed by pretty pictures of a new kop or the spin put out there?

Big E Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Things look better now. However cackhanded it's been, it's not inconcevable that things could end up ok. IMO singing anti-hicks in the ground will bring negativity when we should be supporting the team. If left to settle things could be ok, and the only way to really bother him is £ not songs.
Kop_90 Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Correct me if im wrong but is it not only 100mil that is in fact debt for the club. This is the money to start construction work and player purchases. If you think this money was to come from the owners then you are mistaken.
Lark Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 yep kev it was going on in the second half as well when we were winning - again though i think it was in reaction to rtk singing hicks songs - rather than a deliberate ploy to silence rtk(i think thats 202's ploy though;-). when rtk started sininging liverbird and other stuff it was calm - then they start and hicks song and everyone gets up and starts booing. I was fully expecting more anti hicks stuff today and was surprised by the kop( i thought i was somewhat alone in wishing to just get back to supporting the team).
Keita Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 it was RTK at the back of the Kop versus the front of the Kop, lads were turnin round and flippin the fingers when they tried to sing the "Its in the wrong hands" song and replied with a resounding 'Liverpool' chant. Civil war in the Kop, madness!

There is a different crowd and atmosphere in cup games than there is league. The cup crowd are definately more passionate and vocal. There are lots more scarves etc during YNWA at the start, and I couldn't imagine the 'normal' Kop reacting in the same way as today's lot did when Havant scored.
suzyv Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I think that perhaps a lot of people think that these songs should be sung before the game so as not to put the players off. I do not think that they disagree with what is being sung just that their is a time and place and during the games we should concentrate on supporting the team. This is not my view but I do disagree with singing it when we go down that as nothing to do with the americans.
L19red Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 they picked the wrong day for the anti yank songs. Whatever the outcome onf the pitch the headlines were always going to be about Havant, today was their big day. There will be plenty more anti yank songs that will not get shouted down, but aside from the pointless nature of trying to win a PR battle today, it was a day for sentimentality with the 5 times champions of europe playing a non-league team. People didnt want to look like some big fat bully kicking sand in the skinny kids face, so for today let Havant have their fun. Our fight with the yanks is for another day.
