madaboutlfc Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 f***ing aweful.. I know I will come in for a lot of stick but for a player who has been with us for over 10 years he is rubbish at keeping the ball and pointless hoofing the ball pisses me off.. a lot of indecisiveness as far as organization has crept in as well
jon_hall Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 You've only missed the Hyppia punts all these years then?
madaboutlfc Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 You've only missed the Hyppia punts all these years then?hes not our first choice.. carra is our first choice and he just has been on a downward spiral.. the lack of urgency he showed wound me up as well.. Criticising Carra and Gerrard is blasphemous here but this needs to be sorted
dorgie Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 The whole back line were at it today. Is the right answer.
Guest dKing Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 there was a LOT of pointless punts forward for Torres to flick on for the lightening Vorinin today which I doubt he enjoyed but not just from Carra , when confidence is down the long ball as far away from the goal as possible is the defenders pass of choice .
madaboutlfc Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 The whole back line were at it today.apart from Agger who tries to play "football"
Guz Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Carra is the worst passer in the side probably. But there's always room for someone like him because the good stuff he does is usually EXCELLENT. The same can't be said for some of the others like Riise. The difference between his performances and say Kuyt or Riise is that their good stuff varies between good and average. Rarely are they ever great. Too many middle of the road footballers in our squad who are ok at a lot of things rather than brilliant at a few. We need more like Carra.
floyd the barber Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 well ive been saying for ages that carra has had a shocking year and a half.......ive been abused for my coments!! but hey i dont care....this board is all about opinions, and mine is that carra has been shocking.....and maybe does get a bit of freedom for obvious reasons...still doesnt hide the fact that hes slowly becoming a weak part of the team that opponents know how to deal with.... sorry....just my opnion...kill me again if you like .

Thats correct you can afford maybe 1 poor passer in your back 4 because bottom line is they have to be good defenders, but we're at the point at the moment where we have at best 3 of the back 4 being pretty poor on the ball and for professional footballers thats not good enough. We need at least 1 center back thats comfortable in possession and both our full backs should be able to start and contribute to attacks. Full back is certainly 1 area where we're miles behind the other top teams in terms of what they offer going forward.
jon_hall Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 apart from Agger who tries to play "football" He wasn't on the pitch so doesn't count as our back line today.
Guest dKing Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I think Carra has been making bad decisions in games and a lot of the time Sami gets the blame cause he's too slow!! But thats not the point, players go through bad spells and it takes time to get over it , but with out GIANT squad we can NOT afford to leave him out of the side as we DON'T have a replacement (of we didn't up to a couple of days ago) so thats says more about our club /squad rather than a player who has give he ALL over the years and is struggling a bit with his form at the moment .
Swipe Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I've said before, this team is probably the worst liverpool team in terms of passing that I can remember. Carra and Hyypia are awful passers. They can't pass, but that's fine. Many of the worlds best defenders are/have been without the ability to distribute the ball well. what f***s me off is our defenders are let away with it. Why is Rafa not telling Carra and sami to cease their pointless and frustrating hoofs up the pitch. If there's nowt on in front of them, they should give it back to reina who's a better passer than both.

I think we've been looking for too much from some of the players we've bought. We don't need total footballers in all 11 positions but we need players who have set defined roles in the team. We don't have enough of that. Thats why the midfield in 05/06 worked so damn well. Momo made up for Xabi's lack of box-box mobility, Xabi and Gerrard made up for Momo's lack of ability on the ball. Gerrard on the right made up for Kewell's pace and movement on the left, likewise Kewell brough shape and good posession to the team. Lots of variation, lots of balance.

What gets me is that we often play with two holding midfielders yet the defenders whack the ball over them to a lone striker !!!! And a few times Reina has used a quick, long, low kick to a centre forwarrd to good effect but i think he overdoes it.

MFletcher Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 World class defender, very poor footballer.
Clay Davis Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Agreed - world class defender, very poor footballer. I just can't get to grips at the moment with the unbelievable awfulness of some of our players passing and control. Its the first thing your taught. These are professionals at one of the world's best teams and they can't do the basics. Its embarassing to watch. Riise, Kuyt, Voronin are simply just not good enough.Benayoun is good for a squad player, but he really isn't that good a player. He wouldn't get into any other top side in Europe. We're seriously lacking in quality, technique and players that can do the basics well and then some. We're still 3 or 4 players away from challenging seriously for the Premiership.
New York Red Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Carra is 30 now. He's not the all-world player he was two years ago. Think back to when he fiest came up also when he played in midfield a lot. Carra was terrible. Clumsy, couldn't pass. It was like the Keystone Cops in some games. I remember how stunned I was at the game when he got two own goals. He's done great in the past few years but has definitely slipped a bit. But, maybe he's not suited to this fast flowing, precise passing, right down your throat style of play that Torres and Gerrard exemplify. Maybe we need speed, good passing to accompany good defending and our CB's just don't have that. Agger probably does, but he's missed a lot of games.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Jesus Christ. How can you criticise Carra after seeing that fare today? Riise just wants to get the ball as far forward in as little time as possible - be that kicking or throwing the ball. His one shot today was lamentable. Sami's passing's worse than Carra's, but they're CBs. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to pass, but they have greater responsibilities. Today, everyone was at it - including Finnan, who had a shocker. At one point (not passing related), Gerrard passed to Voronin by the touchline & under no pressure. He controlled it for a throw-in to them. That just about summed it up. f***ing dire. Only Reina, Babel & Torres had anything like near-to a decent game. Oh - and Masch

Oh - and Masch Ah yes, the player we can't seem to get on a permanent deal despite the fact that he has been a beacon of brilliance in a sea of mediocrity. American transfer policy FTW.

Guest Themba Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Riise. I'll see your Riise and I'll raise you sissoko. As for this thread Carraghers distrubtion is generally very accurate and he does have the ability to pick a pass see Pompy at home (4th goal)
