fyds Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Now the rellies have buggered off after Christmas and Jos is enjoying his new Liverpool 'big fat Dutchman' size home shirt with 'Jos' on the back, he's emailed this afternoon to say that Liverpool have (again, he says) made enquiries of Ajax about the availability of Jan Klaas Huntelar. No mention of fees or whether it's for now or summer, but we are apparently serious and mean to get him. Well, he and Simon were on the nosey about Kuyt and Kromkamp, so we'll see...

Wasn't Rafa supposedly interested in Afonso Alves? I know it's the Dutch league, but his scoring ratio is one in one. Edited January 9, 2008 by RafaShanks
Mikey Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Thats great news, we really need another slow Dutch striker.
windy city red Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) I dont watch any Dutch football and I know this is very pre-mature, but can anyone shed some light on what type of striker Huntelaar is? Which of our current strikers would he most aptly replace in terms of playing style (if he comes) ? Just out of interest.... Edited January 9, 2008 by windy city red

Actually I was a bit of a fan a couple of years ago but have realised that you cannot cut it as a striker in the PL without pace, strength and athletic ability. Huntelaar is a prolific finisher, very good goalscorer - but not very quick or mobile. Somwhow these facts make the likleyhood of us wanting him more believable.

This is who Hunlelaar reminds me of with his finishing. He is absolutely lethal with head or foot. I personally wanted him instead of Kuyt two years ago.
benno2 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Have Ajax also had an enquiry from Juventus? According to Tuttosport they should have.
Ethan Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Maybe a swap deal with Dirk going back to that crazzzzy placeh

RVN's possibly the best predator of his generation, hate him with a passion but he's a bloody outstanding goalscorer.
abuusayd Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 RVN just has to psoition himself in the box mostly at Utd and Madrid but Kyt has to the heskey type midfield graft and then is expected to score a lot. But he does also misses his fair share probably to do with using his energies elsewhere in play.
John am Rhein Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Van Nistelrooy's actually very strong which perhaps accounts for his success in the PL relative to others who have done well in the Dutch League. Huntelaar, from what little I've seen, is not.

Huntelaar, from what little I've seen, is not.Huntelaar is (from what I've seen of him) like some Owen/Fowler - and instinctive finisher, not lightening fast, but quick enough, good vision and fine skills. He's not 'big' but has plenty of upper body strength. As to whether he'll make it in the prem - well, you can never know until you try really.
Dee Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 well, is it a case for the set-up at Anfield that we currently can't handle a player who will position himself in the box but we need - for what ever reasons (defensively minded managers etc) players who will track back, defend from the front, and get involved in the last third...?

Re the 'defensiveness' bit, it makes sense to be at least cautious in this way until you have your attack so well sorted the defence is the secondary consideration in most games - we're not quite sorted up front yet, though overall a big improvement on last year...problem is, this year we've had gaps in the defence at times with injuries.

Cobs Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Dilemma............who to believe....Fyds or Fydspedia?
fyds Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 'In 09th Jan 2008, Humtelaar set to sign for Arsenal with 5 years contract. Arsenal pay to Ajax around 12m. He was present by Arsene Wenger before kick-off Carling Cup semi final between Arsenal and Spurs. He become Arsenal record signing previously purchase Sylvain Wiltord from Bordeaux. He can make debut in Saturday whenever Arsenal face Birmigham.' I've heard of being first with the news, but that's ridiculous!
Woodsyla Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 'Due to his goal-scoring ability he has earned the nickname "The Hunter", a play on his last name.' I never would have figured that out myself
