Chelsea complete £15m Anelka deal

Chelsea hope Anelka will soften the blow of Drogba's absence

Chelsea have completed a £15m deal to sign Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka.

The 28-year-old has signed a four-and -a-half year contract in time to figure in Saturday's home game against Spurs.

Bolton had rejected a £12m bid from Chelsea, who wanted Anelka as cover for Didier Drogba, who is with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup on Nations.

Salomon Kalou is also away on international duty and Andriy Shevchenko is injured, leaving boss Avram Grant short of options.

Shevchenko and Claudio Pizzaro, their other senior forward, have scored five Premier League goals between them this season.

Only time will tell as to whether Anelka will have the desired impact, but I'm delighted with the signing

Bolton boss Gary Megson said: "I have spoken about the situation with Nic and we agreed there is not a massive amount he or I can do.

"It is just as to whether the clubs can reach an agreement. I am still hopeful they can't and he stays here. But that remains to be seen.

"However, the deal has to suit all the parties - the selling club, the buying club and the person involved."

Anelka, who has scored 11 goals in 22 games this term, has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge despite signing a new four-year deal with Bolton last August.

He has made no secret of his desire to play in the Champions League and is still eligible for this season's competition.

Anelka joined Bolton in 2006 from Turkish club Fenerbahce for a club record £8m.

He has also played for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League and won the Champions League while at Real Madrid.

Anyone on here think Torres was too expensive?

Nah, didn't think so

whats your point? you think Anelka is compareble to torres?

I think he'll do very well for them.

he probably will.

be funny to see him and lampard shoving each other out of the way in an argument over who gets to shoot more often though.

Nope - it's a lot of money for Anelka - in my humble view

good, I was ready to issue a fatwa on you

agree that £15m is a lot of money for someone as average as anelka IMO

Well if he's got 1 in 2 being lazy in a poor Bolton side, he'll probably do alright at Chelsea.

because he scored a lot when he played for a the likes of liverpool, PSG and Real before
