ok so i know this a dangerous thread and i`ll likely get destroyed..

Still i cant help but feel that week in, week out Jamie Carragher is not a good enough center back for us to be challenging for the title, he shows fantastic passion...but is being weak in the air, no pace and horrible distribution enough for a side looking to win the premiership? Hes been brilliant for us these past few years, yet i feel we have to make that step up.....last season he was poor, this season the same...both agger last and hyypia this season seemed to have carried him (regardless of carra barking at everyone else) please dont take this wrong a i love carra and he represents everything we love about liverpool F.C...but fact of the matter is that he isnt quite at the level we HAVE to be.

Now Gerrard - wonderful player...but are we suffering a bit from the "Henry-syndrome" as Arsenal did last season.....

Im not saying to sell the guy...just your opinion regarding is he far too influentual on the pitch, that like the fans...our players expect that he`ll be the one to take the reins...and so dont feel the pressure, a great captain not only steps up when needed but influences those around him....no doubt about the first part, just not sure about the 2nd..

Nope.

Carra is one of the best defenders in the world and Gerrard, on form, is the best midfielder in the world.

I couldn't agree more. And while we're at it, we rely on Torres too much for our goals. maybe we should rest him for a couple of games and play Kuyt and Voronin up front.

carra of this season is far from one of the best in the world. He has shown some poor sides to his game this season, penalties given away and too easily brushed off the ball. I love the guy and would hate to think he would never get to lift a league trophy with us, but unless he regains his go from a couple of years back then I can't see it happening, I hope the return of Agger may give him a boost, but Sami has outshone him this season.

I think he's been back to something like his best the last few games.

He was also picked in Gazzeta Dello Sport European Team of the Year for 2007 btw.

you seriously think carra has been fantastic the past year and a half?

So you're saying he's been s**** for all that time? If so you are a deluded c*** :)

i understand where you`re comng from, in fairness to Carra, his distribution is never called upon when Agger plays, so we never complain, theres no denying his defensive work is world class, but yeah, his distribution is s****, once agger is back thT PROBLEM IS SOLVED

as for Gerrard, he tries the hollywood ball far too much, loses possesion on a regular basis, which nobody can deny

id rather have Gerrard then not, but i wouldnt cry if we got rid of him, a swap for Iniesta would be perfect imo

You'd swap Gerrard for Iniesta?

Madness.

iniesta is barcas best midfielder but gerrard is still far superior. Gerrard scored 11 in 13 games but nobody blinks a eye lid - everyone was jizzing when fabregas (gerrard has scored a lot more this season but people constantly harp on about cesc) scored 7 in 9 or summat or cahill scoring 9 in 15 or ronaldo scoring 13 in 16 games. i sometimes wish our fans would f*** right off.

im not saying hes been s***...im saying his level has dropped off alot since our 2005 season......he was fantastic up till then. Last season and this...hes looked a bit of a liability at the back....im just being honest and i know many wont agree, have been thinking this for awhile and needed to get it off my chest.

and id never swap iniesta for gerrard....but still believe that gerrard is best suited on our right hand side, we have a far better balance...as he provides the "team" and thats the important thing....so much more.

i know where you`re coming from, i just think too many time she loses posession, i would have needed a calculator to count how many Hollywood balls he tried from our own half against city the other night that just went to a city player, for a player of his standard, he gives the ball away far too often, he could, and should play the "simple game" a bit more

Did I say he has been fantastic? No. However you said he has been poor.

I think he has been fantastic at times, very good most of the time and had a patch early last season when along with the rest of the defence he was shaky. However our defensive record speaks for itself and it is Carra and Reina who are the two near constants in our backline over the last year and a half and I do not think we can pin any of our problems on our defence.

As for Gerrard I will not even start. He plays s*** and some say he is not focussed, should be sold etc. He scores 10 in 12 and then we are suffering from Henry syndrome.

I agree about gerrard in a certain aspect but not about carra, carra has missed agger

I also think Gerrard is a bit of a problem. We all agree he's a great player, maybe the best this club have and will ever see.. but sometimes he just seems to don't want to rely on his teammates at all. And as he has so much respect amongst the players no-one tells him off to do otherwise. Wish he would play the simple pass more often, pass and move, yet he tends to always want to want to do the most difficult passes at all times.. we know he has the ability, but sometimes when we are playing oppositions that lie deep into their own half we need more patience in our game.. just some thoughts after some brilliant moves in the carling cup against chelsea without him, and his efforts against city.

Only on here could someone suggest our two best players are part of our problems :D

Can you even imagine where this club would be without Gerrard?
