We can kick off on Kuyt and Voronin

We haven't got a good enough striker to partner Torres, and I believe we need a striker in the frame of Michael Owen, someone who isn't a hard working midfielder, who just simple gets the ball in a good position, runs, shoots and hopefully scores.

Kuyt will never be our 20 goal a season player, neither will Crouch or Voronin and all 3 aren't good enough to start for Liverpool for various different reasons.

But what I don't like is the abuse being given to Voronin, he cost us nothing and to be honest he was just a poor player among many others today.

Agree with that a quality partner for Torres is a priority. I dont want an Owen type though i want someone that drops a little deeper can spot a pass and chip in with maybe 10-15 goals. Someone like Bergkamp would be nice :) I think Tevez would have been perfect but someone with similar qualities.

As for Veronin your right we shouldnt be too harsh on a player that was brought here on a Bosman and was clearly going to be used sparingly and as a utility player. There were players with far bigger reputations on much more money that have been as disappointing recently.

We don't need an owen type striker, Torres is one of them. If we had another he'd get in the way. We need a Dalgish type striker.

Torres isn't like owen at all.

The way Torres is plays is based on Rafa's philosphy of working hard for the team, the way Owen played for us was just sticking upfront and waiting for the ball, and we need that in a player, someone who scores from scrappy goals, no nonsense. Someone who doesn't sit deep, gets the ball on the half way line and is stumped and finds themselves running into a brick wall, ala Kuyt and Voronin.

Voronin was a concession signing - a cheap alternative to Robbie to allow us to spend a chunk of our budget on a Torres-level signing.

He has been poor to very poor in recent games, but he was a free signing and is effectively fourth choice so it's not that big a concern.

We do need another striker, but this summer was the first time that Rafa was able to move out the average players after the initial squad building and bring in a world class alternative. I imagine we'll see one/two go in the next couple of windows and be replaced by players with real class.

Until then, they should be fully supported as I sincerely doubt they are giving any less than 100%. Yes they might not have the required level of talent, but if they are working their a*** off they should be supported.

I think you'll find in the modern game at the top level there arent many strikers that do that, managers expect much more from players than waiting for the chances they have to contribute elsewhere. I cant think of many players in the PL play that way, look at Rooney, Tevez they work as hard as anyone, Adebayor's the same. What we need is someone with better quality, top players have that and a strong work ethic too, because they have a strong will to win.

Owen is the modern game, barring a few injuries I retain the opinion that he is indeed among the best in the world.

Anelka, Berbatov, Villa for Voronin, Kuyt, Crouch - swap deals would be excellent - go get em Rick

Whilst were at it, lets swap Risse for Messi.

I heard Kaka was at Switch Island Maccy D's tonight.

Voronin is rubbish. Not good enough.

And he's 4th choice? Plays a lot for a 4th choice striker.

While Torres is our number one, i'm not sure Rafa has a 4th choice with his rotation policy

Which is an issue people seem to be avoiding, how can he be a forth choice striker when he plays more than Crouch half the time?

It's rotation.

I wouldnt take Owen at his peak over Torres, both goalscorers but Torres can create his own chances. I want Torres to be the last man breathing down the necks of CB's if he gets into 1 v 1 situation thats a half chance for him.

If we could get a world class second striker in the Bergkamp role, then our attacking play would improve tenfold, think in terms of what xabi does linking defence and midfield and giving us that fluidity, we need the someone to do the same, to bring our midfield and attack together.

Riise wants to stay though - if we could have someone rob his house and s*** in his bath it might change his mind

Someone made a good shout for that Croation player the other day.

Can't remember the name, but Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked.

Prob cost a fortune, though

Maybe, but he has to be fit and on the pitch to show that he is. Its no good having all the ability in the world if you are crocked in the treatment room most of the time earning £100,000 a week. Owen is not what we need but a striker like Owen might be what we need. David Villa?

We certainly don't need an Owen-type player (except maybe as cover for Torres).

As stated already... it's a Dalglish or Beardsley we need (and I think Garcia in this position would have been unstoppable, especially with Torres). Or a big feck-off 6'4" hard fecker who'll charge through the defenders to get his head on the end of a cross despite knowing he'll inevitably lose an eye to the defender's studs.

Like the b*****d offspring of Peter Crouch and Lawrence Dallaglio.

But isn’t that the problem? The type of player you mention is the exact opposite of the type of striker Rafa seems to bring in, Rafa is continually looking for the hard working all round wide/midfield/someday striker. He's getting exactly what he's asking for.

Apart from Torres none of them are good enough.

Gudjohnsen would have been ideal 3 years back. How old is he now? And is he hungry enough to die for the cause having spent 3 years earning £millions in the reserves of sunny Barcelona?

How was Barnes today? It's not going to be popular but another option would be Joe Cole...
