Voting has begun for the uefa.com users' Team of the Year 2007. The poll, now in its seventh edition, gives the users of uefa.com, Europe's football website, the chance to select a team of players who have made their mark in European football over the last 12 months.

Top 60

Sixty players and managers have been nominated for 12 positions, including coach, and after voting closes on 11 January the final side will be announced on 14 January on uefa.com. The nominees were chosen by uefa.com staff writers on the basis of their daily coverage of football throughout Europe. The players were selected on the strength of their performances for club and country in 2007.

Popular poll

The uefa.com Team of the Year is not intended to rival more established awards, and does not bear the official UEFA imprimatur. Nevertheless, it has proved hugely popular with fans, and nearly 12 million votes have been cast in previous polls with the 2006 version attracting 3,887,556 votes registered by 323,963 users.

Charity donations

uefa.com and UEFA will be donating money to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) 'Score for the Red Cross' appeal as part of the uefa.com users' Team of 2007. Users can also make donations to the appeal should they wish after voting. Under the Score for the Red Cross appeal, the long-standing partnership between UEFA and the ICRC will continue at UEFA EURO 2008™ next summer. The fundraising campaign will enable football fans to buy virtual goals for their teams online. The ICRC will use the money raised to support landmine victims in Afghanistan.

Milan lead way

European champions AC Milan have the most nominees with ten, while UEFA Champions League runners-up Liverpool FC have five. English title-holders Manchester United FC received eight nominations, two more than Chelsea FC, and two-time UEFA Cup winners Sevilla FC, Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona have five apiece. In total, 17 clubs have players nominated while the currently unattached Fabio Capello is in the running for the coach award.

New generation

The uefa.com site manager Adrian Harte said: "It was again a difficult task to select a group of nominees this year, with some excellent UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup and UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying performances. One thing we noticed this year was a changing of the guard with a new generation of young players emerging in 2007. We are again confident that this list highlights the best players and coaches in 2007 and we can't wait to see who our users consider worthy for inclusion in their Team of the Year."

exactly the same as mine but swap Van Nistelrooy for Drogba.

plus I wouldn't have chosen Quaresma had some of the right midfielders/attacking midfielders been available for left midfield

Totti should lose his place solely on the abjectly spineless performance he gave against the Mancs in their quarter-final.

The lists for these votes, the world player, euro player awards, are all bulls*** IMO. Same names nominated every year, even if that player has been s****. Crouch, last seasons 2nd top scorer in CL behind kaka, surely that warrents a nomination? No, but Ibrahimavitch does. Steve Finnan, consistently one of Europes best right backs for the past 3years? Where the f***s his nomination? Its bulls***. Cech won euro keeper of the year last season, or some such award, even though he was injured for 7months. Its a joke. Fashionable players for fashionable clubs.

Amazed that Agger is in there. He gets next to no recognition in this country while the likes of Lescott and Dawson get praise till the cows come home.

Normally I would agree with you but I actually thought these nominations were pretty reasonable...

For sure, you could make a case for Crouch beeing in there, but never on the expense of Ibrahimovic. He's been absolutely brilliant ever since moving to Inter (and often before that as well..)

Dawson gets praise? Same as Titus Bramble may get praise...

Yes the 9 goals he scored in the league and all the goals he scored against the quality teams we meet in the CL really warrants his inclusion. :)

It was mentioned in another thread the other day. Commentator was calling him a Collosus

Agger never gets his due in the press so i'm pleased for him that he's made this list. Not that he'll give a s***.

Aye, apart from Afonso Alves and David Healy which is just  , they're pretty reasonable nominations considering.

Placcy Ronaldo, massive cheat though he is, should be in everyone's team.

Who?? The same flat track bully who disappeared in the San Siro in May whilst not wearing a Sharp Viewcam away kit??
