scoose Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Hate to say it and I know I'll get slaughtered for it but I think if carragher doesnt start to improve drastically then we will be looking for a partner for agger in the summer. He may have lost a little pace or something but the amount of pens, free kicks and mistakes he has made has really cost us in some games this season. It was a definate foul for the first goal yesterday whether it was inside or outside doesnt matter he was late getting there. I also think he could have done better for the third goal although this one could be argued. Just putting my tin helmet on now....
Oli Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I don't know whether it's being lazy to see things going dowhill since his rib injury but I do agree that he hasn't been playing to usual high standards this season on the whole
allez les rouges Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 he has been playing well. open your eyes and the watch the match.
M4TTA Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Disagree, i think our goals conceded column should be enough to tell you how well we have been playing (prior to yesterday granted). Gerrard gave away the free kick from where they scored their second yesterday. Does this mean Stevie is playing bad?
Coyler Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Hasn't looked anything like the player he was in Rafa's first two seasons.
scoose Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 I am watching it (AGAIN). On the whole he is fine but he makes a lot more mistakes than he used to. Could be ribs or lack of consistent partner but he is not up to his usual standard. You open your eyes and realise that Carragher is allowed to be criticised. Bear in mind here I do rate him just a bit disappointed in him this season
karlh Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 He's been s**** this season...wayward tackling, getting caught out of position....he's been great for us but age is catching up with him, we need to start lookin for someone to partner Agger....Hobbs may be the answer?...aint seen enough of him to make a call
Coyler Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Probably no way he could keep up the standard he was at, though; immense performances week in, week out. How long can you go at full tilt for? Can't remember the last time he was 'immense'. Might be because he hasn't needed to be, but still.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 he's not old for a centre-half: it's not his age.he'll look much better once Agger is back
liveabiglife Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 He's been s**** this season...wayward tackling, getting caught out of position....he's been great for us but age is catching up with him, we need to start lookin for someone to partner Agger I think that may be a bit harsh. He's definitely been off his game, no arguments from me on that one, but let's face it, he isn't alone on that one in our line-up at the moment. ....Hobbs may be the answer?...aint seen enough of him to make a call Thought Hobbs looked excellent against Reading - held his own, cleared his lines well - give him a couple of seasons and as Carragher becomes Hyypia (in terms of playability on a regular basis), Hobbs and Agger may be a long-term partnership, imo. That said, we still need another centre-half as we have no cover there if we pick up injuries - as we have.
KD07 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I think he needs to start to fully utilise his experience to shape a new dimension in his style of play. While the Carra of old could keep making last ditch tackles and putting his body on the line in the face of clear and imminent danger, it remains logically stilted to think that an ageing (not drastically, but still) player, class that he is undoubtedly, could keep up to those very demanding standards. It doesn't help that having Sami alongside him (and Johny Rockets to a large extent) means that he remains the last bastion of defence as an outfield defensive player and is constantly on the lookout to snuff out threats that have pilfered through. Having Agger back alongside would help but it doesn't detract from the fact that Carra might need to subtly alter his approach to the game as time begins to catch up on him.
kopindian Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) I think if Rafa has his way with regards to transfers we will see his replcement arriving in Jan like Agger did for Sami.I think he will be replaced completely by season after next. Edited December 9, 2007 by kopindian
Falconhoof Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Did Carra get booked yesterday? I think Gerrard was our only booking.
Guest Kaizer Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Carra has been carried by Hyypia and Agger this season, his two last games have been abysmal.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I think Gerrard was our only booking.yep. THE only booking
Foo Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Quite simply Daneil Agger was our best defender this season until he got his injury. Jamie has been very good the last seasons so it's not too freaky too see him be slightly under par. His lack of pace is going to be more obvious the older he gets though. Another contender for most obvious sentence of the year.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Carragher was lucky to get away with the penalty foul (Even though we were robbed in a bigger respect) or maybe not, depending if we do the mancs.
Jarg Armani Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 he's not old for a centre-half: it's not his age.he'll look much better once Agger is back exactly. they complement each other perfectly, without agger carra has to do things that are unnatural to his game, like passing creatively and marauding up the field. don't think he's fully fit either but it's true that some of his decision making in tackles has been poor, none more so than yesterday. what a shocker that peno tackle was.
Coyler Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 How many goals have we conceded this season ?Is Carra playing anywhere near the standards he has set for himself? Whether it's his ribs or whatever.
Guest ziggystardust Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 this is knee jerk. we have the best defence in the league one blip doesnt change this.
Benzo-13 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) He's very clumsy this season at times. Don't know what's wrong with him at all.. May need some more competition for his place. Edited December 9, 2007 by Benzo-13
_00_deathscar Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 this is knee jerk. we have the best defence in the league one blip doesnt change this. Joint 2nd after yesterday. 9 from 15 doesn't read half as well as 6 from 14/15 did/does.
Paisley Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 He's made a series of rash challenges this season and although he's got a way with a few, if he keeps doing it it's going to cost us - like it did yesterday.
