honourablegeorge Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Someone might be able to provide a better translation: http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2007/..._083638Dev.html By atomizing the Turks of Besiktas Istanbul in Anfield (8-0), at the time of the 4e day of the League of the champions, Reds of Liverpool had been not only started again in the race with the qualification in group A (that of Marseilles) but they had also beaten the record of the broadest victory in the competition. This match of November 6 could however interest the authorities. According to the German daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the day before of this meeting, strong money sums would have been played, in particular on a broad victory of the men of Rafael Benitez. The suspect bets generally go with the faked matches... The German newspaper also evokes a match of Hamburg out of preliminary turn of the Cut of the UEFA against Honved Budapest (4-0). There still, of strong money sums would have been misées in Asia, with a coast particularly interesting for a victory of the HSV by at least two goals of variation. Sunday, the UEFA recognized that it had been seized of a vast investigation into the subject, in collaboration with Europol. The European authority has suspicions on about fifteen matches of Cut of Europe.
TheLa Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I don't know what that says at all but I bet you a few Evertonians do and they're currently texting "Cheatin reds**** bastids 8-0 v turks was fixd" to everybody in their contact list on their mobiles.
honourablegeorge Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 I dunno if they're speculating, or confiming that it's under investigation - UEFA said that the 15 matches weren't high profile, which would've excluded us, i thought. Either way, it'sd be Besiktas throwig the game, rather than us doing anything wrong.
Coyler Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Where does Babel smacking his hat-trick against the bar fit in all of this?
McBain Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Where does Babel smacking his hat-trick against the bar fit in all of this? He slaughtered the crossbar challenge
benno2 Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 It's from here: http://www.sueddeutsche.de/sport/weltfussb...kel/341/146004/ (9th paragraph) It is also thought that there is a Champions League group match, the recent Liverpool - Besiktas game that ended 8-0, on the suspicious list. According to SZ sources, there was a high volume of betting on a big score.
RafaShanks Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Irregular betting patterns? Any clued up punter while watching the game could see that Besiktas were s**** and were gonna get spanked.
TheLa Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 By atomizing the Turks of Besiktas Istanbul in Anfield (8-0) What a word that is. We atomized them. I hope we atomize Man United as well, that'd learn them.
Frosty Jack Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 What a word that is. We atomized them. I hope we atomize Man United as well, that'd learn them. that should become the default term for a liverpool victory by 5 goals or more without reply
Euphrates Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 that should become the default term for a liverpool victory by 5 goals or more without reply Did we merely obliterate Bolton then?

matty Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Lots of web space to fill? Far more column inches to write? Why not speculate about everything without foundation!!! Yes, with new, improved Modern Journalism you too can sit staring blankly at a monitor for hours until you think of anything that links two unrelated events together. Try it! NOW!!!
_00_deathscar Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Are they gonna look at Arsenal winning 7-0 as well then?! Of course not - that was the greatest performance in the history of football.
Bogman Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Are they gonna look at Arsenal winning 7-0 as well then?! Nope, that was just a superb Arsenal game outclassing a well organised team. Don't know how you have the balls to even think that Arsenal would be under suspicion.

mathewbet1 Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Apparently the Besitkas went to the bookies before the game and put 20 grand on a 8-0 liverpool win. Surley nothing suspious about that. Good luck to the lad i say.
Jarg Armani Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 we played the toffees for a laugh and we left them feeling atomized
Maldini Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Liverpool fans in thinking they're going to win big shocker!
Guest Ant Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 we played the toffees for a laugh and we left them feeling atomized
magneto Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Does the ball itself get investigated for match fixing? I'm sure there a deliberate effort on its part to ricochet off Babel and into the Kop-end's net.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 UEFA has confirmed it's not one of the games being investigated
fyds Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Press in wild and factless, sensationalist headlines about Liverpool shocker - who'd have thunk it??
