Does anyone know how close Agger is to a return, last I heard he'd had a setback and they were pinning their hopes on some new boots designed to protect his feet?

Last I heard is that he won't be back in time to face the Mancs.

Suffered a set-back last week, could be another 3-4 weeks before back in training.

I heard that the only thing causing him problems has been the actual football boots, that he has been training fine, kicking, running, all wearing trainers, but that he felt a bit of discomfort when he put the boot on.

Apparently he will not be fit for Marseille but its going to be a couple of games out, not a few weeks out.

They are just seeing how training goes!

That was about three, four days ago. Pretty sure it was Rafa himself that said it.

“But I don’t think he’ll be out for weeks. He can run and can kick the ball, but with the boots he felt something. He is training and doing more or less everything in terms of physical.”

I read yesterday that he'd also had a setback - I'm hoping they meant to write "Agger".

Grrr...

I miss them both :)

Injury table says Agger could be back for Dec 8, and i read in the Echo he has a new pair of specially designed boots that protect the area of the foot and he could be back quicker than expected.

Is that still the situation or is he defo out?

Boots hold key to Daniel Agger recoveryDec 1 2007

by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

DANIEL AGGER could make his long-awaited return for Liverpool next week – thanks to a special pair of football boots.

The Denmark international has not played since the goalless draw at Portsmouth on September 15 after breaking a metatarsal in his right foot.

Agger was thought close to a comeback earlier this month only to complain of further discomfort in the same area.

However, the 22-year-old will train next week in a specially-commissioned pair of boots designed to protect the metatarsal.

And if Agger comes through training with no problems, he could be considered for next Saturday’s Premier League visit to Reading.

“I was talking with him this morning,” said Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez yesterday. “He is comfortable training in trainers but has had some problems with his boots. They are producing some news boots for him and I’m sure they will help him.

“It will be impossible for him to be fit for this week, but he may be back for next week if he is comfortable with the new boots.

“We don’t want to put a date on it. We just want to see how he progresses.

“But I don’t think he’ll be out for weeks. He can run and can kick the ball, but with the boots he felt something. He is training and doing more or less everything in terms of physical.”

He's been out since September with a Metatarsal injury, playing in December is hardly rushing him back.

As well as Sami has played in the last few games I still want Agger back in the side as soon as possible.

well with the way our defence is playing, i see no need in rushing him back...

Why change the two center backs who have only conceded 1 goal in 6 games.

Because the two centre backs have conceded 1 goal in 6 games - that's unacceptable. ;)

Because i've actualy watched those games and it's glaring how much we miss agger.

sounds like we are rushing him back to me. same as alonso v arsenal (who would have certainly gone on to win that game for us, he was out of this world after the break), the stakes are high and rafa feels it's a risk worth taking. i'm not sure whether it is, but it does sound like a premature return to me.
